If you can afford to do so, my personal advice is taking the time off to do whatever you want to do. Travel, learn a new hobby, visit friends/family. Basically do anything you personally want to do as you have a luxury of time you won't easily get again.

I think there has to be a clear connection to how this influences the work/culture/environment you will experience in the London/U.K. office if you do use something that is non U.K. based.
It isn't really needed in my opinion - with a "what would you do" scenario question anyway - might be different with other strengths-based questions.

You can bring them if you want to - it's quite common for people to bring these things. The firm might also provide them too though.

Many firms will take you on this year anyway especially if you won’t be back in the U.K. due to term dates for next summer. So do the AC, see how it goes, and then if you get an offer, ask whether you can still do the scheme or defer to the following year.
