Thank you, I appreciate your message. I am quite rejection-proof and know this is just a numbers game.
In fairness, I already secured a VS for this summer, so it is easy to be chilled out about this opportunity ending here. I suspect I might be a better fit for the firm who offered me a place...
Congratulations to everyone who received VS offers from Mills & Reeve!
I really liked the firm, but I'm afraid it is a PFO for me this time after partner interview. You win some, you lose some 🤷♀️
Having done both a PhD and GDL/LPC (not at the same time!), I don't meant to be rude but even asking this question shows a certain lack of awareness of what these qualifications entail. And I had jobs/children/other commitments both through the PhD and the GDL/LPC, so I am not saying you can't...
Finally heard from Kennedys for my direct TC app - it's a VI invite! Manchester office, applied on the deadline. Feels good after AG's PFO this morning.
Round-up so far - out of my 5 apps, I received 2 post-app PFOs. One VS already in the bag. Two outcomes (including Kennedys) still pending.
I feel you - comparison is the thief of joy. Successes are very visible, but failures are not - yet we all experience many more failures than successes. There is an academic called Johannes Haushofer who published his own .pdf']CV of failures - I treat it as an antidote to LinkedIn braggadocio.
Love this - an abundance of opportunities. Just out of interest, how many firms did you apply to?
I actually think you can smash all of these. Most ACs involve competency based questions or exercises you can’t prepare for in advance, apart from knowing what to expect. So preparing for one...
Pleasure! But also, it really doesn't matter one of your chapters was late as part of the process. Your tutor won't remember it and neither will anyone else. Celebrate getting a high first in your dissertation, forgive yourself, and move on 💜
That is actually a lovely story - my previous career was in academia, so I can provide some insight.
1. Most work is submitted very close to deadlines. He won't even remember yours was almost late.
2. Huge compliments to take away from this - your 78 grade and the lovely comment he sent you...
I hope you don't mind me butting in, but the best advice I received about referees is always to make sure you ask someone who you know with some certainty will say good things about you.
From the referee viewpoint, providing references is a formulaic exercise - it basically confirms or denies...
This is very much my approach too. I’m hoping once things open up again people will want to go on gap years before entering the old corporate hamster wheel.
Kennedys is also recruiting for the 2022 TC.
