Completely agree with this - some people are just naturally great and get many offers in their first cycle but I have to say from my experience this isn’t the norm. In my personal very linear case (which I think goes to show for a lot of people you just improve with each cycle / practice):
1st...
I got a WG last week and the deadline to complete it was the 8th March. I doubt they would have done this unless there were still AC dates going on in later March.
In all honesty, unless it was an acquisition worked on by the partner interviewing you and even then - I very much doubt they even noticed it. I once mixed up an acquisition worked on by a completely different firm and still got an offer aha
Hiya, I completely understand how frustrating this can be. Have you tried signing up to Rare Recruitment or Aspiring Solicitors? In my first cycle of apps, I didn't make it to an interview for any firm but looking back I can see how much needed to change on my application forms. I really...
I have an A-Level in maths and still did terribly aha :)
I went to an Ashurst event with the firm last year and unless anything has changed I was told by Grad Rec that if one component of your test isn't great (e.g. Cognify) they will often look past it assuming all other components (other test...
Honestly interviewers are humans to - and that means you can unfortunately get some that aren’t too nice. I had a very unpleasant and rude interview at a firm a few weeks back and my feedback was absolutely brutal with the call from grad rec effectively saying I had a really long road ahead to...
Also got a Freshfields WG invite - completely surprised as it so late but goes to show you never really know what firms are going to do. Good luck to all those still waiting xx
i wasn’t successful so maybe take this with a pinch of salt but from my feedback I was told in the scenario interviews my answers were not structured enough, I didn’t ask any clarifying questions on the cases they explained and I didn’t deliver advice to the clients with enough confidence.
My...
I’m always curious why I seem to be so much more successful with us firms than uk ones. Has anyone else noticed any particular generalised differences between the two in terms of what they look for ?
I was rejected the next day but I did ask as I had another summer offer which I had to reply to. From the people I know it’s usually a call on the day if successful but I wouldn’t give up hope as there’s always chance partners haven’t had time to all feedback if there particularly busy etc
Best...
Really sorry to hear this mate (just from my own insight I would imagine it had to do with the written questions as I believe from grad rec the HL initial screening, they don't read your answers yet so their final decision is a mix of the questions + WG score)
@Jessica Booker (or anyone)
Do you have any advice for what to do if you have a TC offer at a firm that isn't really your first choice (not trying to sound ungrateful but it doesn't offer seats in a few areas I'm v keen on) but a vacation scheme at a firm you are really keen on but without a...
Depending on how long you have I recommend the first 4 chapters of 'Know the City' and the first two chapters of 'Commercial Awareness'. Unless you're applying to a super finance-focused firm that should be more than enough as 'Know The City' is intended more for investment banking interviews so...
