    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi, what advice do you have for future trainees deciding what seats to apply for? Specifically, if there is a seat a trainee really wants to qualify into but is very popular and typically offers very few (0-1) NQ roles per intake, is it perhaps advisable to consider making the other three...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

I don't really like the idea of hounding them for the money and it's not life or death, so I guess I'll just wait it out. Thanks (and enjoy your holiday!) :)

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

I start the LPC in Feb 2020 and am looking to move to London next month as a result. My firm gives the standard maintenance grant but I haven't heard from them about when I can expect to receive the grant. It would be ideal for me if it was paid out before I move to London... Thus, would you...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

Hi Jessica, thanks for all the help/advice you've given so far - building up a really useful thread of info! My questions concern transferring to a foreign office: when should/can this be done, and what are the main factors that will determine whether your request is permitted (i.e. prior...

    TCLA's New Podcast: Trainee Talk

Yes the usual, but perhaps: (i) a brief overview of the area (i.e. the purpose of competition law, how law firms fit into the picture, the role law firms play in the process), (ii) typical trainee tasks for that area (and perhaps an indication of how this evolves with progression through the law...

    TCLA's New Podcast: Trainee Talk

Competition, restructuring/insolvency and admin/public law would be my top 3, thanks :)

Great, thanks for the response. Can you give an indication of what kind of resources are planned or what the general plan for the trainee forum is? Yes I am a future trainee. :)

    UCAS points

If you include a UCAS qualification why wouldn't you include your AS level(s)? I don't think that's consistent or logical, but as long as OP meets the UCAS requirements (probably low) then I don't think it matters.

    UCAS points

I would definitely include AS and A2 grades, yes (IIRC many firms typically specifically exclude general studies/critical thinking).

Distinguishing experiences in TC Personal Statement to those listed as'Work Experience'

Hey, Here I think is where you should really utilise your work experiences in many ways: i) to help explain why you want a career in commercial law (e.g. you could mention experience with IPO prospectuses and how they require an understanding of business to appeal to potential investors and why...

Tell us about a recent business story that has interested you?

Just to give a slightly different opinion to Daniel (whom I mostly agree with!), I would lean more towards answering yes (to your question). I think it also depends heavily on the story/issue in particular, though. For example: for a business issue/story, I would explain the issue to show your...

    Off Topic Discussions

Hey everyone! Random comment: obviously this forum is geared towards applicants rather than trainees, but are there plans to do more to retain those successful applicants on this forum so that future/current trainees can also make good use of this website (for their benefit as well as to...

    Hearing Back from Firms + AC & Interview Tips Share - 2018 - 2019

Hey, I think it's normal to be disappointed but I wouldn't be too disheartened at all! I myself experienced quite a few final round TC interview rejections at top-tier firms, and virtually everyone I know has experienced rejection at some point too - it's part of the process when you have so...

What are the disadvantages of self-funding the LPC?

I think it is a good way to show commitment to a legal career (particularly when combined with your paralegal work). I think it's quite a common career path for those unable to secure TCs prior to graduating to self-fund the LPC, work as paralegals then continue applying for TCs. The risk is...

    TC questions

    1) I wouldn't focus too much on a particular practice area - after all, your exposure to the wide range of practice areas at this stage will be very little and it's best to keep an open mind (no one really knows which practice areas they'll enjoy and want to qualify into until they start their...

    2019 Interview Checklist

Thanks for sharing! The second part of Q1 is pretty mean - I'm sceptical they actually want you to answer a question because that would require a defeatist attitude about one of their international offices and, by implication, their strategic planning! Instead, I'd possibly focus on the...
