Hi everyone,
I have a TC with a US law firm. They have a small intake. My offer letter didn’t give any stipulated requirements relating to my undergraduate degree.
I am going to start the GDL. The provider says on its website that it requires a 2.1 degree, but they have inducted me into the...
Does anyone know if the September 2021 start GDL will be online? Specifically , with BPP?
I know the option is there, but would hate to pay central London rent and then find out it's all online anyway.
I would be careful in supposing that these individuals will make better lawyers in the long run. Doing well on a vac scheme is very different to the reality of working life.
Thanks! Yes absolutely; just curiosity makes me ask.
I'm on here to give bits and bobs of advice to people. I've already accepted a training contract with an elite US firm.
Thanks Jessica, that's interesting. Yes, I was under the impression that there was no choice.
When you say that some firms can't get all their trainees through the old process, what do you mean?
Is that in terms of timelines, or is it that there aren't enough spaces on the old style courses...
My approach has been to go for firms that are continuing down the tried and tested route. That is to say, go for firms that still put their trainees through the LPC and GDL route.
Some firms are going into the SQE even when there is strong opposition from senior lawyers within the firm. For...
I am afraid I am going to have to correct you.
I've done vac schemes with three of the companies in that list, and can confirm that you do not do real firm work. You do the exact same kind of work that is available on their 'freely available' 'internships'. This is exactly why I was saying...
I would say that a general rule is, the bigger the vac scheme (of trainee intake) the more likely it is that grad rec have chosen the forage option.
Clifford Chance, Slaughter and May, Latham & Watkins, White & Case, Linklaters, to name a few.
Random bit of advice I thought I'd share is, when you're applying for virtual vac schemes. Find out how they're run. If they are run by forage/inside sherpa the actual work experience side of things will be useless. You can get similar things without going through all of the process to get one...
It's really important to use that question to your advantage. So even if you have applied to a wide array of firms, if you give a few similar firms that will help a mile. It will show them that you've really thought about where you are applying and why you think their firm would be a good fit...
"consider your application further towards the application deadline, 15 January 2021, at which time we will advise you as to whether or not you have been shortlisted for interview"
I don't think that means they would say today specifically.
Got rejected from my second choice law firm following the training contract interview of their vacation scheme. Very surprised if I'm honest. My work was to a high standard. Interview went very well and the partners told me it was an excellent interview and they'd hope to see me soon.
But hey...
Hi everyone. I have a bit of a weird situation/fortunate one.
I am a final year non-law student. I've done vacation schemes at several elite US firms. I have a training contract offer currently open, and I am waiting to hear back from two other firms that I interviewed with.
I really really...
