Firms that don't have the WG as part of the application + Is TCLA Premium worth it?

Hello!

I would like to ask if anyone knows which firms do not have the WG as part of their application process? In addition, I would also like to ask if anyone has used TCLA premium in the past and what their thoughts are?

Hello there!

You might be quite pleased to hear that there are many firms which do not use the WG test at all. As a very general rule of thumb, most US firms tend not to use the WG test. For example, of the top of my head, the following firms do not have a WG test: Debevoise & Plimpton, Gibson Dunn, Goodwin, Kirkland & Ellis, Latham & Watkins, Ropes & Gray, Sidley Austin, Skadden, Sullivan & Cromwell, White & Case and Willkie. Please bear in mind that the list of firms is NOT exhaustive and some of them might include behavioural situational-judgement tests (which judged how you respond to various scenarios) instead of a WG test. Also, there are plenty more firms which do not have a WG test. Also, please note that some English firms also do not use the WG test (e.g. Slaughter and May).

On the TCLA Directory, you can actually see which firms do not require the WG test by using the “Filter” button in the top right.

I would also add that TCLA Premium has a really good set of resources. On top of WG practice (which don’t just include questions, but detailed videos covering common mistakes and strategies), there is support and specific advice for the entire process, from passing application stages, succeeding in interviews and building commercial awareness.

Be aware that while Hogan Lovells advertise this year that they no longer use Watson Glaser (they are using now using Cappfinity), the Critical Reasoning Test (CRT) part of their Cappfinity assessment seems to be identical in style to the Watson Glaser test format by Pearson Talentlens. I am unsure if Cappfinity licence their CRT from Pearson.
