Gibson Dunn has reduced the summer vacation scheme to 2 weeks at the beginning of July. They plan to run the summer scheme virtually for the most part but will also investigate if it is possible to have some attendance at the office during the scheme.

Cleary Gottlieb has decided to cancel its two summer vacation schemes due to take place in June and July this year. The email stresses that the firm is still hoping to be able to provide an in-person vacation scheme during 2020 (with no indication as to the timeframe). Further updates will be given "at the end of the summer period".

Received an email from apply4law on behalf of Orrick to say they've postponed their TC assessments until early 2021. Was in the middle of writing the application so slightly disappointing but more worried that other firms that still have their TC applications open will follow suit.

Sidley Austin summer schemes to be shortened from 2 weeks and moved to a virtual format. They will still be paying for the full 2 weeks though! Dates and more information TBD.

definitely not too pushy if it is a couple of weeks.

They have said no assessment until Winter so this seems to be the line they will be taking.

For vac schemes where a live element will take place in winter instead of summer, any ideas how this would work with participants planning to start the GDL in September? Would the firms potentially pay back that Year 1 tuition to those they offer a TC? Or is that just a hit everyone will have to take?

A lot of firms fund the GDL and LPC retrospectively anyway but given this is entirely out of students' control I would expect a lot of firms to pay back any tuition regardless of what their policy is on retrospective fee paying
