Securing a training contract under impossible circumstances.

Heyyyy guys😊,
My name is Ruth. I recently, decided to take securing a training contract in London for the 2028 cohort really seriously.

I’m a Nigerian. I schooled in Nigeria and I’m literally still making my applications from here, so I’m basically who you would accurately describe as “the non- traditional applicant”. I got to the final accessment stage at shoosmith though but rather than let rejections to stop me I have decided to give it my all irrespective of whether I win or not. But I believe I can win regardless of my background.

I have also decided to apply to firms that is almost impossible for someone like me to get into and I hope to come back here and tell you that I got in🤞

Hi Ruth!

Welcome to the forum! Firstly, massive congratulations on getting to the final assessment stage at Shoosmiths! That is an incredible achievement, and shows that firms already think you have the potential and capability, making you a strong candidate. You should never feel discouraged by having a non-traditional background - if anything, the determination and perseverance it takes to pursue commercial law opportunities internationally is something to be really proud of.

Wishing you the absolute best for this cycle, and I look forward to hopefully seeing you come back to this forum with a TC offer from one of the "impossible" firms 😊 💪
