Hi Guys,

I am currently applying to SA and I would like to have your opinion about this question "Why does a career in a city law firm interest you? "

I was thinking to focus on a few aspects: 1) City lawyers are required to be commercially aware, 2) Focus on technology. I was thinking to analyse the firm's legal tech apps (still researching this aspect) and my experience with legal tech, 3) Focus on diversity and how important is this for me as a black person and my volunteering to promote LGBTQ awareness.

What do you think?

I think you should focus on why a career in city law interests you - your focus seems to be more applicable to what a City lawyer is, what a good City lawyer is, what the law firm of the future looks like or why diversity is important.

To take your points above, you can tweak it to be this: (1) a career in a city law firm has a commercial (not just purely legal) aspect to it; (2) a career in a city law firm tends to be at the forefront of legal technology and finding innovative solutions; and (3) city law firms are traditionally more diverse. Granted, some of these points still do appear to be 'strong' points as to why someone should or is interested in a career in a city law firm.

part three isn’t answering the question really. What were your thoughts on including it there rather than elsewhere in your application? It seems a bit forced into this question to be honest.

My plan is to confront my work experiences in my home country and here in England, especially when it comes their approach towards LGBTQ people

I would personally leave this to the motivational questions specific to the firm, unless you have been involved in LGBTQ activities/networks in previous employment.
