So many retail jobs....

Hi, sorry if I have posted this in the wrong place! I am just wondering - I have had 2 retail jobs and 2 hospitality jobs, starting when I finished year 11 and running through to now (end of 2nd year of uni). They all gave me the same skills pretty much, and it seems like a waste of space to list them all on my CV, but I do think it is important to show that I've been working since I was straight out of school? So my question is basically should I cut it? Or does anybody have any suggestions for how to mention them all more briefly? What have other people done in this situation? I would have space to include them all normally if my CV was longer than a page, but it seems better to be concise? Please help!

Hiya @theintellectualpropertygirl

If those are the only experiences you have right now, I’d list them individually in your work experience section. They’re valuable, and it’s worth showing that you’ve been working consistently since school, it speaks to resilience, commitment, and time management. I'd recommend having a think about any specifics that were relevant to each role, e.g. the number of customers you served, the nature of the work, whether you experienced any progression in the roles, etc.

That said, if you’d prefer to save space or keep things more concise, you can definitely group them together under one heading. Something like “Hospitality and Retail Roles (2019-2025)” works well, and then you can briefly list the different positions in the description, focusing on the transferable skills you gained (teamwork, communication, problem-solving, etc.) in a single entry.

Again, I think both approaches are fine. What matters is less the exact formatting and more making sure you highlight what you learned and highlighting how it will help you out as a trainee.

Best of luck with your applications!
