Hey everyone, I was just wondering if we apply in the next cycle (year 2020/2021), does this mean we have to sit for the SQE after we have completed our LPC and training contract?

    Hi @Jessica Booker,

What is the difference between the GDL and the new PGDL? (https://www.bpp.com/courses/law/pgdl-law-conversion-course).

When the SQE is implemented, does this mean the PGDL is an option/not compulsory? Thanks!! :)

Won’t be compulsory unless you want to take the Barrister route. Will give you flexibility for 2020 to do LPC and/or SQE if you wanted to become a solicitor. In 2021, it will just be marketed as the conversion route for barristers or SQE prep.

Ahh okay, thank you for that! If in 2021, I decide to take the PGDL first instead of the SQE straight away, might commercial law firms be skeptical about my commitment to becoming a solicitor?

no - they would see it that as you are doing your SQE prep.

I suspect that they will have slightly different modules for those taking the SQE route vs those wanting to become a barrister
