TCLA Vacation Scheme Applications Discussion Thread 2025-26

3am thoughts: how is everyone prepping for ACs/VIs/other tests while juggling uni, work, and life… and not losing their mind? Asking for someone who is definitely struggling.

Has anyone got any insights into the Clyde & Co VI, Trowers & Hamlins VI, Mischon de Reya (MdR) chat-based interview, and Dechert written exercise (WE)? Additionally, if anyone has any experience with, or has heard anything about, the CMS ACs then please get in touch!

I can trade with insights for Latham & Watkins, Hogan Lovells, Addleshaw Goddard, CMS, Macfarlanes, Mayer Brown, Weil, Kirkland & Ellis, and Simmons & Simmons for this cycle, and VIs from last cycle for firms like White & Case, DWF, Forsters, Mills & Reeve, Reed Smith and other US firms!

Caffeine, deleted insta and tiktok, took unpaid leave this month for SQE1, being kinder to myself with diet and exercise than I usually would be in January. What motivates me is a combination of spite and walking around the nice houses in my local area (Islington, some real beauties) and looking into their kitchens/living rooms and thinking I could do a better job of decor if I had the corporate law money.

Honestly, aspirational house-spotting sounds like solid motivation 😆

What...noooo... I'm motivated by only passion for the law and nothing else. 😂

@Afraz Akhtar Hi, How do you recommend answering the interview question asking to compare other firms you have applied to. I understand that they’re ultimately trying to understand what distinguishes us, but how do you balance showing that you are a competitive candidate that has progressed elsewhere but not making them think they are not your first choice (especially since I have been asked before what stages I’ve reached with other firms specifically)
Thank you!

@Afraz Akhtar I reached the final stage with a law firm three weeks ago - they haven't given out offers yet to anyone and I am yet to hear back on the outcome of that interview, maybe even this week. However, I am away for a week in another country and switched my sim card. If they were to call (hopefully) with an offer, that call wouldn't reach me. Am I right to assume that they would then email? A bit worried that I may come off as unprofessional and/or not receive comms from them at all for this reason.

Is there a difference as to how I would approach a strengths based rather than competency based interview? Especially re: how I approach examples - if I'm talking about for example communication, am I better off bringing in multiple examples fro my career to date to show it is a strength of mine rather than STAR analyse one specific situation?
