Also for the unspecified word count - what should I be aiming for? (is 1 side of A4 enough?)

Generally the cover letters we see that are successful are generally around 700-850 words. They can be shorter or longer but I’d say aim for around this number and then don’t worry too much if you feel you have put everything you need to together in a structured and concise manner, and it’s slightly under or over this amount.
