Hi, don't usually post here but was looking for some insight, for the first time in I think 2 application cycles, I've actually score open days application acceptances.
I'm just curious, since I hear these are competitive, if one could take these as indication of the firm seeing you as an potential candidate?, cause honestly I could really use that boost, because applying into the void is exhausting sometimes XD

Hello!

Congratulations on securing those open day offers - that is a fantastic achievement! They are genuinely competitive (and often more than you think!), so the fact that you’ve been selected shows that you can write a strong application and respond effectively to what firms are actually asking (which are key skills for vacation scheme applications).

It’s definitely an encouraging sign that they see potential in you, so I would absolutely take it as proof that you’re on the right track!

Congratulations again, and I hope the open days go well! :)

Thank you, that's really encouraging to hear, I think this is definetly the best application cycle I've had so far, when it comes to events, and hopefully the one I can score a training contract. If you have any tips to help make the best of these events, do let me know.

That's really great to hear - it sounds like you are really putting yourself out there this cycle, and that's a huge win in itself!

For open days, one thing that really helps is going in with a clear intention: think about what you want to learn or who you want to connect with. It's easy to just observe (and I was definitely guilty of this at the first couple of open days I attended), but engaging thoughtfully and showing genuine curiosity about the firm leaves a strong impression. I found it always helped to go in with one definite thing that I wanted to gain from the day - such as an insight into the culture, to speak to X trainee or partner that was attending, or to learn more about a certain practice area. That way, I felt I had made the most of the open day and gained new insights I could use for my application.

Make sure you also take notes - not just on what the firm says, but how it feels to be there in the firm. Those small details can be really helpful later when you are writing your application or during an interview. Also, don't underestimate how valuable it is to connect with other attendees - I still speak to lots of people I have met at insight days!

You've got the right attitude already, so just go in as your authentic, curious self :)
