this might be aimed more at those who are currently doing the SQE, but how do you decide which campus to go for- Moorgate or Bloomsbury for Uni of Law? is it that Moorgate has more future trainees go there? Just asking for a general consensus- where do firms tend to send their trainees across law firms?

    Hi @mfuturetrainee,

I did not undertake the SQE so I am not sure if there is a major difference in the quality of the SQE course whether taken at the Bloomsbury or the Moorgate ULaw campus.

However, I studied the LPC at the Moorgate campus and have visited the Bloomsbury campus on occasion (for library study sessions) and I really enjoyed my experience at Moorgate. The campus is much more modern, you're in the heart of the City of London with Slaughters, Trowers & Hamlins, Addleshaw Goddard right opposite the building and several other top, international law firms dotted all around the area and my teachers were good/competent. Also I believe their Moorgate campus is solely for post-graduate students so you will find a lot of other people on the same journey as you i.e. doing the SQE/BPC/LPC so it's a nice collegiate atmosphere.

I met a wide array of students, people with TCs and some not. In my class 3/15ish of us had a TC e.g. at Shearman & Sterling (as it was then) and Hogan Lovells. Most of the future trainees (especially those at the same firm) were put together and so some classes had a wider majority of future trainees than mine. Also I would say firms overall do send their trainees to the Moorgate campus, I know for sure that Pinsents, DLA Piper and Wedlake Bell do as I have friends from these firms.

Personally, I loved being surrounded by these top law firms as it gave me more motivation to pursue a career in law and just overall felt more exciting!

Quick q about whether to focus on TCs or vac schemes

I'll be starting a job (in law) during September on a 1-year basis, + I haven't had any prior legal experience (e.g., VS). Since a lot of apps for VS + direct TCs open around September, I wanted to ask..

For firms which offer both VS and direct TCs, which should I go for? I'm not sure if I should focus on direct TCs because by the time I apply, I might have only been in my job for a couple weeks/month(s) - is that enough legal experience to warrant a direct TC?

    Thank you!
