I'm interested in law firm IPOs in general - am I right to believe that this is somewhat of a uniquely British thing? I think in the US at least there is a rule that no non-lawyer can own part of a law firm
Are other people still waiting to hear from Orrick post-WG? Did mine on April 5th
(trying to get a sense of whether it’s a likely PFO although I know no-one really knows lol)
Lol why tell everyone they’re impressed with their application it’s just so patently insincere like I could submit an incomplete app that indicates I failed out of school and they’d still be impressed 😂
Same here! Assuming everyone got the 'We have a very limited number of places available on our scheme, and although we were impressed by your application, I regret to inform you that it has been unsuccessful on this occasion'?
'Barring the Magic Circle and some SC firms' is basically barring all major competitors to US firms in London - if a US firm has a successful London practice then it is likely a prominent international firm in the same league as magic/silver circle
When Gibson Dunn says it takes 90% from its VS, what does that mean - given that its trainee intake is 6 people? Like would they only recruit direct TC if they have a really shabby VS cohort?
Oh that is interesting - so are the trainee intake numbers posted on LegalCheek not exact numbers? I guess I’ve been mainly interviewing with US firms with a trainee intake less than 10 or so, and I got the sense that they would hire the exact number regardless of circumstances but your point...
For the BM VI did anyone else's say '2021 Training Contract'? I definitely applied for 2023 TC and my CvMail says as much but the VI said 2021 TC for some reason
I have seen it mentioned many times on here that people could be taking up someone else's opportunity of getting a TC by doing a vac scheme at a firm they don't want a career with - I'm wondering whether you mean that the firm could actually end up recruiting fewer people as a result of this? If...
Fair enough! I figured that I am still waiting to hear back from at least 5 vac scheme apps and also that people have used the thread a lot to discuss how to excel on a vac scheme, which is still relevant until summer...but I guess it was getting a bit unwieldy haha
I guess I don't understand what he means by the fact that the vacation scheme cycle is over, nor why the fact it is 999 pages long means it should be closed!
Also maybe this is a dumb question but what is the actual reason for using a new thread vs continuing on the old thread? It seems to make absolutely no difference to our experience of the forum lol and will just break up the archive of posts regarding the 2020-2021 vac scheme cycle as many...
@Jessica Booker sorry to ask the same old question- if the Baker VI (using launchpad) says ‘due by April 28’ (doesn’t give a time), does that mean I have until 11:59pm tomorrow to do it?
I said that I had made my decision and committed myself to a career in commercial law and that I would be more than happy to keep up my hobbies on the occasional sunday or during holiday... not much more I could say!
