12 while working full-time is pretty amazing! So I only found out about this process in November as I studied undergrad abroad. Starting in November I told myself I was going to apply to as many firms as I possibly could in order to make up for lost time, but I am studying on a full-time...
I applied to 36 firms this cycle and secured three vac schemes, but I have mentioned on here before that I didn’t get a single interview in the first 20 applications I made. It could be for any number of reasons, including that my applications improved over time, but trust me when I say that I...
Those positions are pretty impossible to get even compared to the TC hunt - and I think it would be hard to say a barrister isn’t doing well if they land a role at Debevoise! Far more career security at least
Also Debevoise’s London office is all about international arbitration and public international law in addition to its transactional work, regularly hiring newly qualified barristers as associates including having Lord Goldsmith QC (ex-attorney general) running its international arbitration. In...
Not even taking into account mental health, you just won't have the time to spend it! I do think though that this probably comes down to the fact they are so focused on certain practice areas which will also require awful hours at all other top firms
I'd be surprised though if their guaranteed level of base income were normally higher than their US salary. Legal Cheek reported somewhere else that Kirkland and Latham's current salaries are 136 000 I think, still v high obviously but V&E are way out front, and S&C, Goodwin and Sidley are...
It’s also worth remembering that they don’t pay as much as Legal Cheek says they do - the dollar exchange rate fluctuates but $190000 was only £145000 when the pound was doing its worst last year and they’re usually more in the realm of all the other US firms which pay £130000 +
For the Baker McKenzie direct TC application, do people think it is too late to apply since it is rolling? Also, maybe this is a stupid question, but as someone not from any underrepresented groups myself, I am not sure how I should answer this question, or whether it would even be appropriate...
Those are rookie numbers, try almost six weeks! Jk but to answer your question W&C told me we should hear by this Friday latest so if we don’t I’ll call again on Monday and lyk what they say :)
I am not waiting on this but I’m sorry to see that you and others are in this position. Were they supposed to be funding the GDL for your cohort starting this year and would they be able to do it retroactively?
Willkie Summer Vac Scheme!! (I will inform my relatives that there can be no family emergencies in late June, jk 🤣)
Edit: It was such a challenging interview I really was not confident - we really should try not to make assumptions post-interview, although there is no harm in managing...
What about vac schemes that are just for work experience and don’t offer TCs at the end of them? If it’s not part of a firms TC recruitment process then is it ok?
Also do firms talk to each other - if you didn’t reveal the fact you had accepted a TC offer and did a vac scheme with a different...
Covington was the most efficient I have seen - all VS decisions were made within four weeks of the application deadline!
Edit: and they are non-rolling!
