I think what he means by 'accessibility' is the financial aspect of attending. For me personally, my dad lost his job around the time I was applying to unis and so, even though I got into one of the top unis in my home country, I decided to attend a lower-ranked one so that I wouldn't have to...
I think the only advantage of applying early is if you're looking to secure scholarships. But even those I think don't have deadlines until June or so (don't quote me on that).
But otherwise, I think the two biggest schools like BPP and ULaw struggle to fill all their spots.
I have seen so many former classmates/friends go from having strong preferences for transactional/litigation work and completely flipping their preferences on qualification. I'm also anticipating it in myself (if I ever get a TC that is). 😆
That is a good point re: all the aspiring int'l arbitrators targetting such firms. I guess there really is no way of predicting these things. But good food for thought. Thanks!
Hi Jessica (and anyone else who wants to chip in),
Just wanted to piggyback on your point about international arbitration being a really competitive area (sorry, for the completely unrelated topic!). Would you say that is the case at the majority of London-based firms? Would it be different at...
No news from Ropes & Gray. I looked through last year's thread and it looks like people heard back around the 26th of Feb. So perhaps next week we'll hear back?
Mine hasn't come through yet either. Since the email confirmation said they'll 'review' apps, I left it as is. Wasn't sure there was much to 'review', but also didn't want to annoy the emerging talent team lol.
I'm guessing the firms with tiny intakes like King & Spalding, Brown Rudnick, and Proskauer Rose also aren't requiring any tests (not from personal experience unfortunately as I haven't applied to them).
Sorry to hear that - if it makes you feel better, they seem like a sinking ship anyway. I predict BCLP will be the next firm to implode, we seem to have 1 every couple of years or so. Lots of partners seem to have jumped ship in the past couple of years.
....having said that, I will still make...
I really hope you're right! I was looking through past years' comments and the pfos seemed to have come in early Feb and the interview invites were given earlier than that.
