    Researching firms: clients and deals

I'm keen to know this too. Until recently in most of my applications, I'd include a point about the culture/diversity at a firm. That's because usually I had been to an open day/met the firm before and it was a genuine reason for applying. Another applicant then asked me to proofread his...

Commercial Awareness Update - August 2018

The story I'm preparing for TC interviews is based on Brexit, so your posts (especially the last two) have been so helpful. Thank you!

A bit lost after second year vac schemes

Thanks for answering! That's part of the reason I'm far more keen on a bigger commercial firm/MC firm. I think it's definitely a work hard environment, but I also feel trainees get great responsibility, get to enjoy interesting work etc.. When I did work experience at some smaller outfits, I...

A bit lost after second year vac schemes

What did you mean by feeling dead inside from the regional firm? Was it just boring? In that interview with the guy who did six vacation schemes, I remember him saying that because Winter schemes are open to graduates and career changers as well as students, the competition is higher, so he...

Do I need to tailor work experience in my applications?

I'd be interested to know this too. I always thought my work experience section was a bit weak.

    Linklaters Application

Hey, I'm doing the Linklaters application at the moment and I'm struggling with the structure of the question "write about a current news article that has interested you, and how you feel that subject would affect Linklaters". Do you have any advice for that? Also any other tips for this question...

How much of it is about application technique?

No need to answer this if it's too personal but out of interest, how many interviews did you in the end?

How much of it is about application technique?

That's really good advice thank you! I think I sent too many generic applications last time because I was rushing and that's probably why I did so poorly.

How much of it is about application technique?

Hi I'm looking forward to the application courses!! I'm just curious, in your experience how much do you guys think it's about application technique, like good writing/tailoring your application over stuff that you can't control like grades/experience? I haven't had much luck in the past and...

    Case Study 2: M&A analysis

Thank you! I'm going to give this a go next weekend and then if it's OK I'll email?

How long does an application normally take you?

For me it depends on what else I have on and how much time in a day I have. If I'm really focused I can get one out in just over a weekend. If it's during the week then it'll probably take the whole week and then some to finish it. Also depends on how many questions in the app form and how much...

    Motivation

I'm glad this isn't just me. It's hard spending hours and hours on an application and then getting rejected, over and over again. I'm really hoping I'll have more luck this year.

Lol I know the guy. He's quite a good teacher just a bit scary :P

    Currency exchange rates

That's a weird question but isn't it just asking what exchange rates are? Which would be the value of one currency compared to another currency. I assume they would then ask a commercial question which links to it?

I would vote for this one too.

    Anyone else drowning?

I shudder when I think about inheritance tax and solicitors accounts rules :P. I think it'll be more interesting once the electives start though.
