TCLA is inviting applications to join its new marketing team!

Hi All, 2019 is going to be an important year for TCLA. We have a variety of goals during the next phase of our growth, including publishing a catalogue of partner-led classes, liaising with law firms and reaching our next goal of 5,000 students. To help us get there, TCLA is looking for...

    Suggestions for TCLA 2019

TCLA has many plans for the New Year, including filming a series of partners/legal tech companies for our classes. The most valuable information I get, however, is always from you guys. What would you like to see at TCLA? What do you think would be useful to students?

Questions to ask a Law Firm at Interview

I came across a list of general questions I had prepared to ask law firms at interviews. I thought I'd share in case you need some back up questions (ideally, you wanna go for genuine questions). I've split them between questions to ask partners/trainees/graduate recruitment. A little warning...

    Useful links and resources

Great article!! This was exactly what I was thinking when I mentioned Slaughters. I get the feeling Slaughter's senior partner is quite close to Mike Lynch:

I don't think the link works!

    Reed Smith application

It's a tough question. First you might want to check out this thread: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/how-performance-impacts-what-we-do-and-the-way-we-work-with-clients.760/. There are some good comments there. If I approached this question, I'd begin by investigating the...

Where should a law firm open its next office?

This is a good article by Dechert on how Saudi Arabia is trying to transform its economy: https://info.dechert.com/10/9009/july-2017/saudi-arabia-s-transformational-privatization-plans.asp?sid=851663ca-7486-4a0b-812e-a75d3c02aec4. It also raises the challenges for foreign investors who are...

    US Firms TC Applications/Cover Letters

I'm not as familiar with GT, but in a cover letter, you usually want to cover why commercial law, why the firm and why you. Have you tried Chambers Associate? Not all relevant, but it can give some background info for US firms...

You definitely have our support. You'll get there!

    Some Food for Thought

I'd put it like this. Generally speaking, and this is very simplified, to get a TC you need to: Have pretty good grades Write an application that stands out Perform well at interview/on a vac scheme, which means: Show you can work well with others Build a rapport with your interviewer...

    Law Firm Cover Letter

I should add - I reviewed a W&C application (today, actually) where a student merged why W&C with personal examples really well. It is definitely possible to merge those two, but I suggest you try to be more direct and specific with your reasons for applying to W&C and how that is relevant to...

    Law Firm Cover Letter

I feel talking about why commercial law/why me/why W&C in one paragraph dilutes the quality of each of the answers. Some quick thoughts:

    Some Food for Thought

Great book (Quiet). I couldn't agree more. It's not always easy, but you can get through the process being you. You may have to go out of your way in certain areas, but you don't have to mould yourself into someone else to succeed.

    work experience section

Good question. While we don't review work experience in applications, I've seen so many different approaches to this section. Back when I approached this, I would always go for the concise summary of my responsibilities. It was my view that firms wanted your "pitch" in the application...
