If you are going to go with 10, ensure that everything else isn’t squashed - for instance no squashing line spacing or too narrow margins or very long paragraphs. You need to make your letter easy to read even if the font size is smaller.
Personally I would go with 10.5 as smallest font but be...
The key is not coming out with obvious/broad statements like “commercial awareness” as this is something every lawyer has to work on throughout their career. Instead, try to pick something more unique to you that you know you need to develop but something that you can clearly evidence that you...
I think the context of it then needs to be not related to your degree though - eg not studying in a foreign language/not adapting to a new academic style of learning, but more about living in the country.
I am not disregarding anything. If anything I am trying to highlight why regarding the challenges recruiters have is as equally important.
Respect goes both ways and I’d hope candidates could also understand their timescales / expectations are likely going to be at odds with what is...
I would try to apply in the first two thirds of the application window if the firm is recruiting on a rolling basis. You shouldn’t rush your applications just to get in there early, and ultimately the vast majority of people won’t apply until the last few days of the application window anyway
To send an update via a keyboard button you need a decision to update on though. That is where the delay could be (or people could just be off from work unexpectedly - wouldn’t be unusual given how much Covid is currently doing the rounds).
I get is frustrating. I am just trying to highlight...
Anything you include in your application you need to be confident about talking about more broadly than just what you have said in your application. The question could easily be “why did you highlight that specific deal out of the 100s / 1000s you could have picked for similar reasons” and “well...
I get the frustration of not hearing, but sometimes firms just don’t have an update for you.
It’s not about disrespect to the candidate, it is just that there isn’t a message to give. I’ve lost count how many times I would have liked to have updated candidates but I wasn’t in a position where I...
I would expect the answer the have the same themes but presented differently - how you write something Vs how you say something would be different, and rather than repeating the exact detail it’s a chance to say something from a different angle or with different evidence/meaning.
This is a fairly common question at an interview stage, and so it is one to prepare for.
If you have got an interview though, it is reasonable they have already worked out that this is the case and by inviting you they clearly don’t care/worry about it that much.
It’s very common for people...
I personally wouldn’t - the firm never uses this abbreviation and only refers to itself as it’s full name on its website.
If you are trying to do this because of word count m, this thread might help to show where you can get other words back:
Thread 'How to get your applications within their...
1) no - it would never be seen as a negative that you are driving your own career forward.
2) if you have passed the assessments, there would be no sense in completing a prep course again, so you’d have the time to fill with whatever you felt was appropriate.
I personally wouldn’t include anything that has been included elsewhere - repeating information in an application isn’t something to aim for as really it is a missed opportunity to show something extra or different about you. If the volunteering is out in your work experience, you are claiming...
Unfortunately there is no answer to this. Many firms may expect over 4 weeks legal work experience but others will expect 0.
Some firms value non legal work experience as much as they value legal work experience too. If you are ever unsure, I would ask the firm you are wanting to apply to.
In some cases, yes. In some cases, no. Really depends on the firms stance on this. Some firms may just push you to a direct TC process instead. Some firms will just advise you to reapply.
For your SQE prep course, it will be a student visa.
A skilled persons visa would only be possible once you are in employment, and you aren’t employed if you are studying the SQE before your training contract.
