The best things come to those who wait!
Congratulations! I have lost count where I have heard stories like this where the first few attempts didn’t happen, but it ultimately resulted in the best outcome for someone’s dream firm.
Well done and hope you get to celebrate over the weekend!
You may want to consider legal roles in the public sector, such as the GLD or local government. They typically do not have minimum academic criteria and will just assess you against competencies they want to see in candidates.
Alternatively you may want to look at alternative routes, such as...
Normal for most jobs - training contracts are a bit different where it is typically four weeks, but it isn't uncommon for it to only be a week, especially if you need to be onboarded for the LPC/SQE/GDL in September.
The firm wouldn’t know you are still engaging in the recruitment process for other firms unless you told them. I don’t think it’s really a legitimate clause in the contract either.
Useful post here about how to do it
Thread 'Using A Subject Access Request for Law Firm Feedback'
https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/using-a-subject-access-request-for-law-firm-feedback.3292/
The last SAR I did took over 3 working days (in terms of hours needed to do it) across 3 internal teams to conduct.
For anyone thinking about it, a whole load of people requesting SARS is only going to hinder recruitment more generally and slow things down - please only do it as a last resort...
LinkedIn is not a good measure of people’s success as it typically only highlights people success and not what they aren’t achieving.
Just because you see “everyone” securing something, it doesn’t mean there aren’t those who are not getting that success. It’s easy to shout about success, but...
I am not sure what part of this you are being assessed on. If it’s just the statement, then my theory would be that you cannot claim that based on the information you have been provided with where it is “should”.
I am pretty rubbish at these things though so happy to be corrected on this one.
Courses generally don’t include the SQE assessment fees. Where they do, it’s typically the full postgraduate level courses that are £15k+. But even then it’s not that all of these course do provide these costs. It’s something to look out for when choosing a provider.
Course providers at less...
You can do a SAR, but to go in with a SAR first is pretty bullish.
Instead, ask for the information to be shared with you, and explain you would seek an SAR if the firm is unable to provide this information.
SARS are exceptionally time consuming and also long winded for both you and the...
I wouldn’t make this assumption. There are lots of reasons why you wouldn’t hear back tomorrow but could still be invited through to the assessment centres, even if they are in a matter of weeks.
Your TC is not going to be reconsidered if it only required you to achieve a pass.
I don’t think you need to communicate this at all in all honesty because you have met the firm’s expectations.
Typically once term has started - so late September/early October.
Some firms will have shorter windows too - so might only be November to January and then open again June-July.
No set pattern though unfortunately!
I personally think so - it’s likely to be much more practical for vacancies from 2025 onwards. You can do the LPC if you started your LLB before December 2021, but I think the longevity of it is starting to wane very quickly because of the talent pool available to take it has effectively halved...
I think you have to be confident that you’ll secure a 2024 training contract to invest in the LPC now, or that you know you’ll work for a small firm/organisation that won’t have an intake of trainees.
Many firms will have moved to the SQE by 2025 and going into this recruitment cycle (mainly...
I think it needs to be naunced than either commercial law and transactional law.
The firm clearly like to label themselves as business and finance. I would check to see what they mean by this, given their practice areas and specialisms and make sur e your answer aligns with this rather than...
You can ask, but you might find out that 1) they are ultimately the same position anyway or 2) there are slightly different requirements, such as more experience needed, for the paralegal role over the assistant paralegal role.
Give the recruiter a call and ask them to explain if there is a...
