Okay, that's good to know. Have you considered undertaking the SQE to qualify in the UK? It consists of two exams and two years of work experience. You can read about it here- https://www.sra.org.uk/become-solicitor/sqe/
As for lateral hiring, I don't think that would be an option for you as...
Think about those companies and clients of law firms operating in aviation- as you rightly said, this is good news for them as it, in some way, eases the burden of the losses they incurred during the pandemic. But were there any other ways they used or would have needed to use had that levy...
Having a numerical result in your work experience or extracurriculars is not related to how sharp your commercial awareness is, in my opinion. You can demonstrate your commercial awareness successfully through your knowledge of business news, how it impacts clients and involves law firms...
It depends- are you using the award to justify your motivation to apply to the firm/train or practice in that area? You may want to consider mentioning something recent as well as the award in that case so that you're able to demonstrate that you've followed/researched the firm's progress.
Hey @SLKEJRWOI97! Congrats on your AC- this is such a big achievement! 👏👏👏
I am linking a post I recently made on ACs that I hope will be helpful to you- https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/assessment-centres-how-to-prepare.4534/post-93642
Feel free to tag me in your posts...
One of the only (and best articles) I have found on this is by Shearman & Sterling themselves here. This too is a helpful article by LCN on the types of law firm partnerships. I hope this helps?
Hi @x0.nora98! Congratulations!! 👏👏👏 @George Maxwell and I drafted posts today with our best advice for VIs (they aren't Gowling specific though!)- you can find them here and here. All the best!! Let us know how you get on 😇
Opened the forum today to such good news!!! 🥳🥳🥳
Well done all- you've made us so proud!👏 👏 👏
My best tips for VIs-
TCLA Q BANK- Practice using this question bank, which was my holy grail during the application process. Trust me, there isn't a more exhaustive resource with interview questions...
Taking a break is a really good idea- you've worked hard and deserve some time off! Let us know if we can help you with your applications once you start making them again with a re-energised perspective.
@rose0904
The reason why the uni essay example doesn't work too well here is that while quality was important to you re the essay, it wasn't important per see for its delivery i.e. for other people depending on it, which arguably there were none. You can use any example, really, as long as it...
I think this question is a good place to demonstrate your thought process rather than commercial awareness. Just ensure you have solid reasons for why you'd like the law introduced and what you expect its impact to be.
Hi! It's really brave how you've reached out here on the forum for support- very well done 👏 👏 👏
You mentioned something about your applications being poor last year- where do you think you went wrong and can improve upon now?
You don't need legal work experience to get a foot into a door in...
@michael98 it's absolutely alright to mention the case because you're using it to substantiate your interest in the practice area, not to demonstrate your knowledge of the case itself. Focus on how the firm went about the case, their strategy, which expertise and offices were engaged, their...
I think @Jessica Booker and @George Maxwell have broken this down brilliantly! @TB96 good on you for reaching out here on the forum with your question- it's very commendable 👏 👏 👏
🎁🎅🎆Happy holidays everyone! ❄️☃️🎄
I hope you take this time to allow yourselves to have fun, reflect, be kind to yourselves for working so hard and relax- you absolutely deserve it.
I will be working through the holidays so please don't hesitate to tag me in your posts here on the forum if I...

Hi @Asil Ahmad! I'd approach this more generally, while keeping the firm's core competencies in mind to see if they align in any way. So what that would look like for me is to state the key skill ➡️ how do you know that this is a key skill for a commercial lawyer (event, research, conversation...
Hey @OO28! My best tip would be to think about the implications of the case study for your client and how you can implement legal/commercial solutions to deal with them. For example, if the case study raises an issue about a client's employees leaving to join their competitors and the resulting...
