Dive into Reed Smith’s transportation practice to see how their legal advice drives the world’s largest shipping, aviation, and logistics businesses, and how trainees can make their mark.
I've seen a range of approaches based on the Davis Polk covering letters that have been submitted to us for review. If you haven't heard otherwise, it may be best to play it safe and at least keep the firm's address in.
I haven't actually seen a written exercise like this before, but my advice with all of the written exercises is to stick to the fundamentals. I would generally advise against going into the exercise with a particular set of key points/format in mind. You want to be able to adapt to the...
Well done! We have some free written exercises to practise here: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/case-study-2-m-a-analysis.78/. Unfortunately we no longer have the capacity to mark these, but they still should be good practise!
I'm not sure if it was this one? https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/commercial-awareness-past-interview-questions-and-topics.1735/#post-14258
You'd want to start with researching the firm first. You can then use the information you find to think about what kind of specific challenges/opportunities the firm may face.
Cybersecurity could definitely be an issue, but you want to think about why that's an issue for the particular firm you...
Thanks @LM, delighted to have you join the TCLA team.
I have known LM for some time and they have achieved many fantastic things during their training contract. I hope you guys find this to be a useful opportunity to ask questions you may not normally be able to!
That was similar to the reasons I chose to do a master's. If you are particularly keen to explore the law further (and are able to secure funding), that sounds like a sensible reason. I was lucky in that I was able to secure a grant to cover some of my fees, which made the decision easier - I'm...
Only if you were saying something substantive to go along with it (i.e. it genuinely relates to why you are applying to Freshfields). In that case, it can help to prove your point. If it's just for the sake of demonstrating you spoke to someone at the firm, it won't add value.
Agreed with Jess. I'd try to think broadly here - what else matters to you in a career at the firm? You could also develop skills and become a well-rounded lawyer at many City firms, what do you hope to achieve at that particular firm?
Great points from Jacob. In additional to the professional risks, you might also want to consider touching on the personal consequences. Why is it important to you to have integrity in your career? What kind of lawyer do you want to be?
Great points from Naomi. You may also find it helpful to take a look at the wording of SPAs, facility agreements and confidentiality agreements online (simply by doing a Google search). You wouldn't be expected to have done this, but I find it helps a candidate to see how contractual terms are...
I can relate to this - things have been a bit bumpy this year for me due to family circumstances. I think I'm far better at setting goals professionally (and over-working), but I don't spend near enough time looking at my own anxiety/stress levels. I noticed I said the same thing in my 2018...
Love this. I used to do something similar: I'd imagine that I already knew the interviewer and I was just heading back for a conversation. That's not to say I wasn't still formal, but I found this helped me to break out of 'interview mode' and build a closer rapport with a partner.
Sure, we can do this. I'd just flag that it's a little messy due to limitations on our platform (we'll have to cancel your subscription and re-sign you up to Gold with a coupon).
