In this interactive session, Maya Shah, Senior Early Careers Specialist at Ropes & Gray, will walk you through every stage of the firm's application process.
Willkie’s new graduate recruiter and two trainees will break down what the firm looks for at the interview stage, common pitfalls to avoid,
and how you can demonstrate confidence, clarity, and genuine motivation throughout an assessment centre.
Typically more casual, and even if it is “assessed” it will only have a very light weighting. You can always ask at the beginning of the day if it is assessed.
It doesn’t have to be anything big and I’d actually say something like Jacob’s example is particularly rare in terms of applications.
It can be anything that was just overly difficult to achieve/complete/get through.
The elements that usually make up such answers are:
- conflicting demands
-...
I’d personally focus on the one you choose. If you explain the positives and negatives (and explain how to potentially mitigate the negatives), it should come across as a well considered answer.
If you have a follow up interview on the exercise, just be prepared to talk about the other options...
Technically, if you are accepting the TC ahead of starting the second vacation scheme, you should renege the offer. Some firms, whether they are the TC offerer or the SVS firm, may also state you have to do this based on the terms of their respective offers too.
Usually, firms will give you...
Use these sections to explain your circumstances.
Even if you haven’t done anything within the school/university environment, try to think of other things you may have done - do you play any sports for fun, do you go to the gym or do any other form of exercise, do you explore your interests...
You can, especially if you can leverage other skills or knowledge that will be particularly useful to that paralegal role (e.g fluency in another language, knowledge of a particular sector/industry/practice area). However, many firms will have a preference for the GDL and/or the LPC/SQE, so you...
8-12 weeks before you are available to start a role.
There is no point applying now as the firm/employer will be looking for someone fairly immediately, and will be able to see you are in studies until the summer (and so is likely to be a straight rejection).
Visa sponsorship for paralegal...
If it comes up in conversation, then it’s fine to mention it. You just need to be super clear as to why you are doing it (eg what are the skills it will give you that the LPC/SQE won’t, and why will this help you in your career in London/the U.K.).
I don’t think it makes you stand out either...
Unfortunately there isn’t anything to breakdown the SQE1 results by trainer provider yet, and even if there was I think the sample size would be a little deceptive/hard to analyse.
Based on the combination of what you have said though, I am less concerned. The firm and BARBRI will also provide...
There won’t be a “right” answer.
There are bound to be a range of issues that could be picked up - and I suspect they may even vary between sports/countries etc. I am by no means a sports law expert (last firm who I worked for who specialised in it, I stopped working for in 2005!) so my advice...
As someone who got Covid pre-vaccinations and now having to go through a very drawn out process for long covid assessments over a year later, l completely agree with this. If you can get your vaccines and you want to get them, don’t wait about IMO!
I’d try to find something more unique. I think a lot of people can claim something this during lockdown so there is just a risk that it seems fairly common. However , if there are specific elements to your answer that you think make it more unique, then you could use it.
You don’t need to continue to do anything - you can pull on past experiences. Not everything needs to be in the present or recent.
If you feel you have other skills sets to develop, then moving on could help. It isn’t really about the jobs you do or the responsibilities you have, more the...
You could explain how your work experience has shaped your motivations to train as a solicitor and at Ashurst, but there would be no need to repeat the detail of what you did in those work experiences to “sell” your abilities.
My only concern with this is could the low 2.1s really be classified as a failure?
I think if the rest of your academics are strong (eg no other low 2.1 grades in first and second year) then it is a clear blip and a clear under performance that could be classified as a failure when contrasted...
The pass rate for the LPC was 58% so it’s technically not that different. What the failure rate won’t tell you:
1) People working full time while trying to study
2) The difference in pass rates between those who are financially supported through the assessment and those who are not (there is a...
It really needs something more tangible. But it doesn’t need anything big. This is more about how you bounce back from the failure, rather than the failure itself.
