In this interactive session, Maya Shah, Senior Early Careers Specialist at Ropes & Gray, will walk you through every stage of the firm's application process.
Willkie’s new graduate recruiter and two trainees will break down what the firm looks for at the interview stage, common pitfalls to avoid,
and how you can demonstrate confidence, clarity, and genuine motivation throughout an assessment centre.
The compelling answer is a genuine one. Pick out the specific aspects of CC that appeal to you and then provide the rationale as to why those things appeal/how you and the firm align. It doesn't matter if the theme is generic - the alignment won't be.
They haven’t liked the term pretty much since it was created by the legal press several decades ago.
It just is a really crude term (in terms of how basic it is) and was based purely when there was a huge gulf between them and other firms on revenue and particularly PEP. But the legal landscape...
If it is in your application and it is not a CV blind recruitment process, then your assessors will be aware of anything you have written. That will include mitigating circumstances.
I wouldn't expect much detail in a mitigating circumstances section and where there is detail, it should focus...
Focus on what you want to learn more about the firm that cannot be found out from their website/brochure but that trainees can answer - this is typically more around their personal experiences as a trainee, but also their opinions of the firm.
I don’t think you can assume anything until you see the specific information in front of you. Its quite feasible that the information you are provided with suggests something else or alternatively leads you to another approach.

- who is your supervisor and what is their seniority? Do you have more than one?
- do you have some form of mentor that also guides you? If so, who are they (a fellow trainee...
My advice is just not to over engineer your answers. Preparation is important, but 1) I think you can prepare when you know you have interviews coming up and 2) you can prepare based on more of the specific of the role/firm you are applying to.
What you can do is think about the examples you...
I feel like I have to be brutally honest here.
You are over thinking this and you are thinking too rigidly by trying to “perfect” your answers. A question as broad as “when have you displayed team work” is just looking for that - it’s looking for examples of you working in a team - they are not...
Have you looked into the possibility of whether you can secure your own visa? Sometimes there are things like youth mobility visas you can apply for (depending on your home country).
The firm may sponsor visa for a vacation scheme. It’s not completely unknown and especially could be the case if...
It's ultimately asking which one is of most importance to you. Say you have 100 instances where you have to choose one or the other, which one would you naturally go for if you were the only one making the decision/influencing the factors.
If you went in the middle you are saying you are 50/50...
