WG test from Clifford Chance received. Sunday is the deadline. I'm actually really enjoying all the practice tests and I've asked ChatGPT to make practice questions that are even harder than the actual test. Can anyone who has done the real thing provide any insight into the difficulty?
Finally hit submit on my first DTC application for this cycle to Clifford Chance! That application took me about a week even though the application questions amounted to about 600 words.
I'm so sorry to hear you're feeling low. Unfortunately, rejection is just part of the game. Having been on both sides of the recruiting table, you can do everything right and still not get the job. Getting a rejection doesn't always mean you're a weak candidate. TCs/VSs are highly competitive...
Seems like a stock answer. I got a similar message from White & Case when I got a PFO. I wouldn’t read too much into it. Focus on making your vac scheme application as strong as possible!
This is such a good question! It’s good to remember that a rejection doesn’t mean you’re a weak candidate/not good enough for the firm. A lot of recruitment is subjective and can ultimately come down to sheer luck. Secondly, I find it useful to reframe rejection as redirection. I have been...
I found the W&C Open Day application quite hard. Granted, it was my first (and only) one so far. If I was to critique my application, I would say I perhaps didn’t emphasise why I need to attend the open day. But I will also be at their event with Legal Cheek at 4, so see you then!
White & Case Open Day PFO on my birthday! It’s my first rejection this cycle and it’s my top firm. Slightly disappointing, but onwards and upwards. Now to the vac scheme application. 😅
Congratulations on the TC offer!
Personally, I would just apply to firm 2 this round. You’re in a strong position and you’ve got nothing to lose (which can actually make your application stronger). Worst case scenario is you don’t get an offer for firm 2 but you still have an offer for firm 1...
Is anyone else approaching associates/partners from the law firms they’re thinking of applying to for tips and advice? I’ve asked a senior associate at one of the MC firms I’m applying to and have a meeting with them next week to discuss the application and hopefully gain some useful tips.
Hi John,
Lovely to see another career changer here. I echo what Abbie said - you clearly have a lot to offer any law firm as you have so much professional experience. I’m in a similar boat to you and what’s helped my mindset is reframing the question from “why me?” to “why not me?” That’s given...
Hi everyone!
It’s so lovely to be here and to read through everyone’s stories. I’m a career changer who is looking to (finally) stop being scared and pursue a career in commercial/corporate law. I wish I had done law much sooner as it has always been an interest of mine. My A level grades...
