My unprovable conspiracy theory is there is a lot of unconscious bias and prejudice in recruitment till this day. An overwhelming majority of people who progress with US/MC/SC firms come from a very particular demographic that makes up such a tiny proportion of the population.
If these firms...
I say TCLA LLP should file a class-action lawsuit against grad rec teams to enforce releasing scores and post app/test feedback. This will be grad Rec’s response but we’re gna reject it:
I’m pleased to announce that after waiting 36 days I have finally received the long awaited PFO from Milbank post stage 1 for Summer Trad VS.
Grad rec probs saw my post and were like oops we forgot to send that Harvey lad his PFO. Glad it’s over and done with now though haha.
OMG Gibson Dunn Spring VS AC!! I’m in shock rn cos I was doing my Akin TI when I got the email.
For reference, I applied on 23 Dec, sat the SJT and WG on 24 Dec, got VI 8 Jan and did it on 19 Jan.
Partner: “Okay let’s move on to the next question: can you explain the lifecycle of a PE fund?”
Me: *realises I’m cooked and grad rec are ready to launch the automated PFO email in 3 2 1…*
These are 10 examples that come to mind but idk if I’m deeping it way too much lmao:
1. Why a US/MC/SC firm?
2. Why this location (e.g., regional office)?
3. What practice areas interest you?
4. Where else have you applied?
5. Why our firm over our competitors?
6. Why do you want to be a...
I would rate my computer skills 1000/10 because I can type fast, I am proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and can switch tabs at lightning speed, meaning I can multitask and handle multiple work streams all at once…
Meanwhile this is the computer skills live in action:
Grad rec after adding the WG to the recruitment process and setting the benchmark at 90% cos it’s gna filter 28384959500400 candidates out of the process without them having to lift a finger:
I’ve seen some people post that they’ve received Paul, Weiss VS interview invites. I’m sure they were for both Spring and Summer too. They could also be doing batches though like Weil did.
I’ve been putting the end date of the job role so say if it’s set to end in July 2026, I’ve just put it down as that and haven’t rly had any issues. I think I saw Afraz mention yous can put today’s date to signal to grad rec that it’s a current position? Either is fine tbf. Do what works for you!
If I had a quid for each day that has passed since I did Milbank stage 1, I’d have 35 quid, which isn’t a lot but it’s a sign that they’re taking a long time to send me the inevitable PFO.
Has anybody heard from the following firms or knows when they’ll usually respond (i.e., late Jan, early Feb, etc.), so I can manage expectations?
Sidley Austin Spring VS - applied 9 Jan
Travers Smith Summer VS - applied 14 Jan
Covington & Burling Summer VS - applied 16 Jan
Morgan Lewis Summer...
It’s a standard Cappfinity assessment so it has SJT and WG questions. Then there’s a proofreading exercise to check for SPAG.
They said it should take an hour but ngl I spent at least 90 to 120 mins. I think the test was untimed so time doesn’t factor in their decision.
