How do you even begin to shortlist 3,500 apps esp for a firm that only hires 15 trainees… They have a VS and DTC route. How many people do they give ACs, VSs and post VS TCs to? A few of the apps only asked for grades, work experience and/or 1 question: Weil, Freshfields, Milbank, Hogan Lovells, W&C, etc. I tried to find a bit of balance between quality and quantity. Some people have gotten ACs post WG, but then again Orrick sent several batches of WGs, so it’s a possibility they’ll send a few batches of ACs too. For vac schemes Faegre Drinker and Haynes and Boone are still open. FD closes Feb 28 and HB on Apr 6. Both are US firms pretty decent I think. I’d say do the VS but go in with an open mind cos you might end up deciding that the firm is in fact somewhere you’d want to train. It’s just a lot harder to know that at this stage (pre VS).
