Hiya @Hazzyb786!

Hope you’re enjoying your summer and managing to get some well-deserved rest before the LLM SQE starts. You've got a big year ahead!

If you’re keen to get ahead, I’d really recommend focusing on the underlying law, i.e. things like contract, tort, criminal law, equity and trusts, land law, and public law. These aren’t taught on the LLM, but they form a major part of the SQE1 assessments. It's hard to overstate how much of the exam draws on these foundations and in many cases, the law may have evolved since your LLB or GDL. I've met several test-takers who really struggled because they left these areas to the last minute. Having a strong handle on the underlying law will also help make sense of the applied modules like dispute resolution, criminal litigation, and property practice when they come up in the LLM.

In terms of resources, I’d really recommend this brilliant thread by @average_jo123. It's packed with practical advice on prep, revision techniques, and what to expect. Good luck with everything!

Hi all, got an urgent question for anyone that may have signed up late to an SQE assessment via the second window.

I didn’t sign up to the SRA booking window, which has now closed for January 2026s SQE 1 exam.

I’ve been told another opportunity window will on 5th November to sign up for any additional slots or cancellations.

I’ve today started my SQE preparation course so was wondering if anyone’s ever had experience successfully signing up to the SQE exam via the second window, or whether this is something I should seriously worry about (ie. Not actually being able to get a test in January).

Hello!

That sounds really stressful - totally understandable to be worried, especially now that you have started your prep and want to make sure everything is on track.

I haven’t been in this exact situation myself, but my friend was able to book in the second window in the past. The main thing is that you might not be able to book your exam for your first choice test centre, so you might have to be flexible about locations (for example, my friend had to sit SQE1 in Manchester when we live on the South Coast).

I’d definitely recommend being ready to book as soon as the November window opens. It might also be worth giving Kaplan a quick call just to clarify your options - sometimes they can give a bit of reassurance about how it usually works.

It’s a frustrating position to be in, but it sounds like you’re staying proactive and I’m sure you’ll have no issue booking a slot in November. Really hope it works smoothly for you!
