Good luck to everyone sitting SQE 1 this week!

My first paper is on Thursday in Croydon, and I'll be travelling into the City for a client event in the evening. Exam days are stressful, so that should be a useful distraction.

FLK1 completed.

It was not as difficult as I expected, which was a great relief.

As we know, the papers are not standardised, so any two students are unlikely to sit the same set of questions. I feel lucky to have had relatively few unexpected topics; there were a handful of manageable tax questions, and Welsh law only turned up once. Business law is a strong suit for me, as far as it goes, and there were quite a few of those. Luck certainly plays a role, because I have heard from many candidates who seemed to have been dealt a worse hand. (Of course, I may still fail. It is impossible to tell at this stage. We'll see what FLK2 has to bring.)

FLK2 completed. Phew!

It was certainly more of a challenge than the first half. The TCLA WhatsApp chat seemed to agree that the questions often seemed to be exploring little details of law that are not always covered by prep course providers.

One of the few tips I can think of at this stage (not my own), is to use the whiteboard provided at the start of the exam, before the clock starts, to write down as many useful charts, tables, figures and diagrams as you can think of. Go through each topic and see what you can remember, based on a last-minute look at your flashcards before arriving at the test centre. It is also useful to draw a blank calendar, to help you figure out limitation periods, deemed dates of service, etc.
