I feel somewhat obliged to ask what the gruelling academic commitments are (hour-wise)?

Otherwise, the answer is just always scheduling your time well and trying, where possible, to stick to that schedule. But also stay balanced. If you are overworking yourself, it will show - you don't want to turn up completely frazzled.
