Hi,
Does anyone know if it's good to answer questions like 'Why X firm' by focusing on their diversity & inclusion programmes / pro bono / environmental consciousness?
It is fine to reference these things as an additional point, but it’s really important to focus on the work the firm does first.

The things you mention are not the day job - they aren’t going to influence your day to day work that you’ll be doing 95% of the time.

They will impact the environment you work in and in the case of pro Bono work, may account for a small percentage of the work you do over a year. But these are small contributions to work.

Therefore make sure your answer covers why you will enjoy the day job at the firm you are applying to and then you can supplement this with the environment or “extra curriculars” a firm can offer you too.
