nah it’s not automatic. They review first.

Hi,

does anyone roughly know how strict Kirkland are with the initial app? Do they give a lot of the applicants the VI?

trying to gauge how long I should spend on the app on whether if they will give me a VI with a lesser quality app if that makes sense.

To my knowledge, VIs aren’t easy to get at Kirkland. I’d suggest putting your best foot forward, regardless of how many VI invites are given out. Good luck!

I am really curious as to how law firms approach diversity. In all the applications I've completed, I was asked to disclose things like race, my sex, religion etc, but firms will typically state at the top of the application form that these factors are not taken into account when making recruitment choices. To what extent is this true?

They can’t see this information on individual applications, but they can report on the collective data. So say for instance, a firm has a target of getting 10% of their applications from Black candidates, they can monitor that across applications whilst they are coming in and if they are not reaching that target, they can then do more advertising or marketing to try and reach Black candidates. However, they cannot determine an individual applicant’s ethnicity as they cannot see this information when reviewing individual applications.

Is it bad to reference an old deal (2016) in your application even if its the deal that best supports the point you're making?

I would personally recommend finding something more recent. 7 years is quite a long time in law.

yeah but the PFO isn't automatic, so you don't know whether you passed WG until they've sent a PFO with the rest of the applicants or progressed you onto next stage.

Would not know as I applied last year and not this year and last year we got notified if we passed WG or not.

I applied last year too, how long did it take for them to get back to you on whether you passed? It was 20 days for me.

I applied for direct TC application in January and it was quick response last cycle.

was hoping on some professional input into how to display working at my fathers law firm as a legal assistant on my cv/ application work experience sections. He is the sole practitioner and my responsibilities are limited to mostly admin and a little research, but is this still worth including? And in terms of presenting it, should I include that its my fathers firm or is the elaboration only necessary at interview/ further stages? = any insight would be much appreciated!

You don’t have to disclose how you got the work experience unless explicitly asked. However, for something where the relationship is a direct relative (parent/sibling) I think a very brief reference to it being part of your family’s business can be useful for context, and doesn’t mean there’s a bit of a shock at interview stage too.

I would definitely include it in an application thought.
