TCLA Direct Training Contract Applications Discussion Thread 2025-26

I hate Amberjack... Somehow scored 'Low' on the verbal reasoning test for Stephenson Harwood. I scored high in that category in every prior amberjack and do not know what went wrong this time. Rest of the scores: 6/6/6/9 and mid for numerical. VI went well. How cooked am I? Shame, I really liked SH.
How do the Amberjack scores work for grit/creativity/applied intellect/digital mindset? I have somehow scored lower on SH assessment than for BM?

Hi all, I’m hoping to apply for the training contract at Slaughter and May that has just opened for penultimate-year law students, final-year law students, and law graduates. However, I’m not sure whether I’m eligible.

I consider myself a law graduate because I completed the LPC and have been working for a couple of years. However, I originally completed a non-law degree before taking the GDL. Does anyone know whether that means I would not be eligible?

Hey!

From what I can see, I believe Slaughter and May treats candidates who have completed the GDL/PGDL as non-law students rather than law students. Their website states: "If you are a non-law student, you can apply for a training contract in the autumn of your final year or as a graduate. If you are completing, or have completed, the Law Conversion Course (Post Graduate Diploma in Law – PGDL), you will be considered a non-law student."

However, as you have also completed the LPC, I would email the graduate recruitment team to double-check - they'll be able to confirm how they classify candidates with a non-law degree followed by both the GDL and LPC :)
