Pre SQE - LLB optional module choices

Hi all,

I am a future trainee solicitor at a boutique specialist firm, sitting the SQE in 2028. For my final year of the LLB (and before I secured my TC), I chose Labour law, US Constitutional law and IP Law. Now I am wondering if I should change at least one of these to include either Company or Commercial law. Any advice from someone who has/is sitting the SQE?

Congratulations on your TC! I sat the SQE in January this year (and graduated from my LLB last August), so I can offer my perspective on this!

Personally, I would stick with the modules that you are genuinely interested in. I took Business Law and Property Practice in my final year, which are both SQE topics, but when I came to study for the SQE it still felt like I was learning a lot of the concepts again. The SQE providers generally teach the material from the ground up, so you wouldn't be at a disadvantage compared to those around you.

If you are interested in Company or Commercial law then I think it could be useful to take one, but I wouldn't feel like you need to swap your current choices just for the SQE. Since you have already secured your TC, I would be inclined to enjoy your final year and study the subjects that interest you most!
