    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

Certainly last year, I did the WG for Links fairly slowly, but was invited to an AC so I don’t think time is weighted particularly heavily by them for the WG, compared to some other firms. Also, 15th September was the deadline for people on the third and final Linklaters vacation scheme to...

Bad luck. Especially nowadays, open days are so wildly oversubscribed that it’s so important applying early if invitation is done on a rolling basis.

I didn't mean so much that they were dropping, but that in some forums (ie TSR & occasionally the cesspool that is LegalCheek comments) there seems to be this belief that as they are meant to be the two best universities in the UK (and yes, I know there's a whole debate about whether they...

Just to repeat, this was said to me by a partner at one firm - I have no idea what other firms do/what other partners feel. It also isn't my opinion. As to statistics, this is from 2018, but: https://www.timeshighereducation.com/news/universities-biggest-shares-21s-and-firsts-revealed# If...

I think the issue of deciding who gets an offer - whether it be through A level cut off, degree cut off, grade weighting, psychometric tests, etc - is that there are just so many people applying to these firms, and they don't have the manpower, time or expense to make in-depth decisions. MC...

Living Comfortably as a Trainee/NQ Solicitor

The other thing to remember about living in London is that especially as a trainee at certain firms, your hours may be extremely late into the night, so even if you wanted to live in a more distant suburb, that may not be an option because of how difficult it is getting a train at 1AM. Some...

I think for some people it's also that the salary is paid in arrears - generally, 1-2 weeks behind you're actually doing each week of the VS, speaking from experience. Problem is that you need to pay up front for short term accommodation, so need a lump of cash to start with. I think there was...

Which firms recruit predominantly from VS and which ones from TC?

Ah, sorry, I stand corrected on that point! CC no longer have a vac scheme though.

    Your thoughts required (again!)

This isn't directly related to changing the credits/rewards system, but a more general thought for improving the forum. Could we perhaps think about updating which threads are stickied @Jaysen? There are a couple which should be stickied because they cover issues that are constantly, constantly...

Which firms recruit predominantly from VS and which ones from TC?

You should probably make a note that Clifford Chance no longer have a vac scheme. Fairly sure A&O is another one that predominantly recruits from VS, a bit like Links & other MC firms

So first up, bad luck. It's got to feel so gutting having come all this way, and I can only imagine the pain you're feeling. Take the time to come to terms with that. Next up, don't worry (yes, I know it's easy for me to say this) about not converting. Firms really won't hold it against you...

    Linklaters 2019/20 Application

The last VS at Links ends on the 21st August. The next week they interview the VSers over and make their decisions, so I would assume that is when things may really kick up a notch in terms of interview invites for direct TCs.

Which firms recruit predominantly from VS and which ones from TC?

Linklaters generally offers 80-85% of its TCs to vac schemers. As has been extensively discussed on this forum for the last fortnight or so, Clifford Chance accepts direct TC apps, but heavily prioritize penultimate year law students and non-law finalists. They've scrapped vac schemes for next...

Hi Jessica! Very happy to send you a couple of my applications, and also my CV if that is of any usage to you. I obviously don't need the free application review/mock interview, so am very happy for it to be passed onto someone else. Thank you for doing this!
