Applying to VS after Insight scheme rejection
Yes, you should be fine. The only fairly solid rule is that if you do a vac scheme at a firm but are unable to convert it to a TC, then you can't reapply. Other than that, not really a problem.- Adam Gilchrist

Direct TC without previous VS/experience
I'm not going to lie to you - it's always better if you already have a vac scheme, and certainly, some firms unofficially are less keen on taking someone without a VS (understandably enough). BAD FIRST YEAR RESULTS - What to do?
As a general rule, you won't get an automatic rejection for module results. Firms with minimum A level requirements/minimum degree class requirements will do so, but not for modules automatically as far as I know. Always worth remembering that a lot of lawyers don't put their GDL/LPC provider on their Linkedin - just where they did their BA and/or MA. A quick flick through the lawyers I know on Linkedin shows most of them didn't bother entering their LPC/GDL on their profile.- Adam Gilchrist

Yes to both answers, in my experience. 1) This is generally fine, as long as the firm has at least some expertise in it.
