Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

Congrats! From Open Day: You will have a case study based on a commercial contract. Will need to identify and simplify the relevant points for each party. You have an hour to prep for this, so quite a decent amount of time! (A&O is only half an hour). Mark-up exercise to test grammar...

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

They invite 24 people to one assessment centre for each vac scheme. So I guess they will wait until all the VIs are done and then pick the 24.

Anyone got through Bird & Bird WG to VI and know their score? I got 30/40 raw and 72 percentile and didn't make it through :( Got Baker McKenzie WG to do before Friday so currently sh**ting it. Getting lots of practice in to try and do better this time!

    M&A legal overview

The shareholders own the shares, not the board members. So yes the shareholders have to approve the sale. If the board members recommend the buyers offer to the shareholders then its a recommended bid. However, if they do not recommend it and the buyer tries to continue it is then a hostile...

    Deloitte?

Entirely fair given that their training contract is a three-year programme that incorporates the new SQE. It says that on their website.

    Mayer Brown Application Advice

At the Open Day, they made it clear they can infer it from the work you did and your examples etc. Don't need to explicitly state the skills.

Reed Smith "what current issues do you think have an impact on the legal profession? how and why"

I applied for the Winter Vacation Scheme and awaiting results. Make sure you link the answer to the firm. I would try and focus on something a bit more specific and that has already happened that you can be more certain about. The election is today so after what happens I guess you could then...

    Bird & Bird Video Interview

Went to the Open Day. There will be four competency questions and one on commercial awareness. You have 1 minute to prepare and 1.5 minutes to answers. However, it's better to be concise, if you finish your answer in 1 minute don't try and continue just for the sake of it. Better to end it...

    Allen & Overy app - 2018/19

I wrote about initial margin requirements for over-the-counter traded derivatives. I linked it to A&O as they have a legal tech solution for this and also my interest in technology. I spoke about the impact on clients, the industry and the firm. So yes, you can be very niche!
