Hi everyone,
Just a reminder about our TCLA rules.
Please can you note provide details of assessments such as case studies, articles interviews etc where you explain the specific topic/theme of the assessment. We are happy for people to provide general guidance and talk about general themes...
I'd stress it isn't always just saying this for the sake of saying it - I don't think any recruiter wants to waste the candidate's or the their time.
I have encouraged people to reapply in the hope they would improve in the areas we identified where they needed a stronger performance on the...
I strongly suspect W&C are manually screening applications rather than being axed by an AI bot (same for most law firms). I think there is often a misunderstanding of how AI is being used in recruitment, and also how heavily it is relied on. Firms are reluctant to use it when there is some...
I would continue to apply to both opportunities (subject to your eligibility for them with each firm) as well as open days/insight programmes. I would only recommend not applying for training contracts if you need to build up both your legal and non-legal work experience as typically you will...
This wouldn't need to be a reasonable adjustment - you'd be welcome to take in anything into the presentation to help you present unless the firm has said otherwise in the instructions.
However, I wouldn't go with a script as you may be reliant on reading it rather than engaging your audience...
Yes, there is a possibility that the university will need you to attend in person due to certain restrictions with student visas - they can often get audited on attendance for international students, and can get fined if authorities think they are bringing people in on visas who are not...
Might not even be picked up as an error - at the same time it could and firms that are particular about errors may mean that it does contribute to their decision, but I could easily see how something like this is missed.
As I have said many times before, at one firm I worked at we used to do a...
Most written assessments will have some errors still. I don’t think I have ever seen a perfect response.
But it’s difficult to know how much leeway would be given. It’s really going to depend on what the errors were as some will be more serious than others.
Just to clarify a few points on here:
- your QWE does not have to be in the UK - you can do your QWE in any country, it just needs to be signed off by an English qualified lawyer.
- if you are qualified in another country/jursidiciton you do not need to do two years of QWE. You just need to...
You don’t need a law degree or the GDL anymore. You just need any degree level education in any subject to be eligible to sit the SQE.
Elite firms know very well how the SQE/QWE system works and are using it in a whole host of ways to train people, including foreign qualified lawyers. The...
The key issue is that paralegal roles are not all equal. A lot of them are very basic administrative roles that will not develop the same skills as a trainee will as typically their responsibilities are different.
There are some paralegal roles where they get high levels of responsibility and...
Agree with this - you are unlikely to be assessed on whether you would include this or not. Most law firms have template documents where this is all automated anyway, which is why firms wouldn’t really care if you manually inputted such details or not.
