There is absolutely no harm in asking. The worst they can say is no and then you have to work out which firm to choose. But it’s a very common question for graduate recruitment to get, so do ask.
Hi @emilyding
Your skills won’t just come from your work experience. You may have developed them through your extra curriculars or academics too, so don’t be afraid to highlight your key strengths/skills. Try to think about what yours are rather than just what you think the firm might be...
Typically it will close at 23.59 but firms can choose to turn vacancies off manually at a time that suits them (sometimes at lunchtime or the end of the day). In these cases, firms usually state the closing time though.
You can explain what you have earned previously and vaguely state you would be expecting around a similar amount, especially if they are similar companies.
Just shows the difference in salaries in Europe - it would be more difficult to get that in the UK.
I would recommend thinking about this more as to what you feel is the most appropriate evidence rather than the nature of the evidence itself. It’s far more important to utilise the experiences you think you have learnt more from / gained the most skills from / have challenged you the most.
How...
I don’t think you need to explicitly link it to the firm. Either the details you are providing are relevant to the firm in some way or they are not. The reader is likely going to be able to read the skills from your description anyway and make the link. Plus the stuff you have done in the past...
Ok - I’m not going to know salaries across Europe, so I can’t comment if this is going to be wildly over their expectations. It would be though for most U.K. based internship roles if this was in U.K. sterling.
Has there been any indication of salary in the job advert/job vacancy or have you...
I would just stick to the answer unless you feel you have a previous example that really aligns with /is very similar to this scenario.
I think you can try to weave in one or two of the firm’s values if they naturally fit into the answer/scenario though.
It is hard to know the specifics but I suspect there are something here about mutual respect and that given the raised voice is for both parties that this isn’t the opportunity to bad-mouth the competition, but instead support them as best you can whilst still trying to sell your...
I don’t have any connections at that firm, so won’t be able to help on this.
I would stress that sometimes getting hold of people in these positions can be quite difficult and you at find more luck with connecting with those who are currently training at the firm or have recently qualified.
This does not need the “why me” part as it’s not asking you for this. This is purely about motivation rather than capability.
I would also consider covering why the training contract opportunity rather than why commercial law more generally as the question is asking you to specifically cover...
I would avoid salary for any firm. It may be a reason for applying but it isn’t going to be something that actually makes you enjoy the work that you do, and salaries can be similar across US firms, so you are not really explaining why specifically that firm, just high paying US firms more broadly.
