If it is a voluntary role, they may not even seek a reference as you weren't employed. Even if they did, as you said you could provide other supporting evidence, so I don't think this will be an issue.
The firm or an outsourced company will seek the references so you will just need to provide...
I'd echo this. Even if there was any truth to it, doing a paralegal job will be better than being unemployed and you will develop more knowledge than if you were in most other non-legal jobs. And that is really what is important - how you are developing your skills and knowledge.
It will most likely just be job title and employment dates and just a check to see you aren’t guilty of any misconduct.
The firm could ask for more, but the reality is for those type of roles, your employer will only confirm when you were employed and under what job title. If that job title...
One pro will be that you have more time to resit if you do sit the assessments earlier but don’t pass first time. However, that will also depend on whether your firm allows you to resit (some won’t, and others that do might only do so if you cover the costs of the second assessment).
Pros of...
There are no electives on the exams - you complete the same assessments as everyone else/they are a standardised assessment. The electives for the courses are mainly just to supplement information that the SQE assessments won’t cover but that the individual law firms think are important for...
Hi @WeRegretToInformYou - I am sorry to hear about your loss of a family member. I know it must be difficult to focus on your interviews with a lot happening in your personal life.
I advise contacting the firm and asking for the interview to be postponed rather than informing them that your...
There is an element of trying to work things out or complete the work independently, but ultimately within a law firm a lot of that will still require to check in with someone else. The bit that stands out to me is "You have a fair idea of what to do but you are a little confused by one of the...
There is a 14-18 result turn around after SQE2, and so many future trainees will find themselves with a good 3-4 month gap between May-August/September, unless the course is a form of masters course and there is further study needed to complete that’s not directly tied to the SQE assessments.
If the skills is blatantly obvious (eg you are referencing doing a lot of work in a short period of time) then you don’t need to go on to say it developed your time management skills. However, sometimes skills developed can be more subtle of less obvious. For instance, if you were responsible...
I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer here as it will depend on your circumstances. If you think a direct TC is the better route for you, then you should go for it. The firm will recruit a decent number of trainees from direct TC applications.
1) not entirely up to date, but gives you a rough indication of salary differences: https://www.rollonfriday.com/inside-info
2) It happens - although how common will vary between firms, practice areas and even demand in the market at the time. I wouldn’t say it happens all the time - but it...
Salary bands also depend on individual performance, (although for some firms individual performance in part will be measured/calculated by billable hours).
But you could be a exceptional performer in one department and work fewer hours than another colleague who has a lower performance rating...
Many firms will work on a salary band rather than a fixed figure like you have as a trainee.
So certain departments might be at the higher end of that band.
Performance bonuses will also create quite a difference in total salary.
I wouldn’t say “read” as many as you can - but I think it’s worthwhile picking out a reasonable number of them (say 4-6) and then reading and analysing them. Reading them alone won’t really help, but ensuring you analyse them in a short timeframe (eg 30 minutes) like you would do in the...
300 words isn’t actually that long to read - I suspect they will read all of it.
What else does the application consist of outside of the cover letter?
