You are right that these won’t be seen as mitigating circumstances unfortunately. Mitigating circumstances are things that are outside of your control and unexpected, so the format of the assessment and not being familiar with them will not be considered mitigating circumstances. The fact it is...
The “whereby I” is more than likely superfluous too. It could just be:
Awarded marks for something by doing something else.
And yes, you can still include open days on a paralegal CV if you would like to.
With paralegal roles, it’s much more about aligning to the specific job advert for that...
You don’t need the “during my vacation scheme” part in either option. The vacation scheme will be in the heading, and so such phrasing is just superfluous.
You should also avoid using I / my etc
So to me B is sufficient but it can be written as:
• Completed a corporate exercise and drafted….
If you are determined to do the masters, then I would go for that and then try to apply to firms during your masters course and secure sponsorship for the SQE via a firm.
However, you don't necessarily need to do a masters - it won't automatically strengthen your application form, and there are...
If you are not doing a TC until at least 2024, then I don’t recommend doing the LPC at all. Most firms will have converted to the SQE by that point.
The LPC might only be worthwhile (in my opinion) if you are expecting to start a TC in 2023.
You can include employment opportunities if there is an achievement within it (rather than just doing your day job).
I wouldn't think so heavily about what the examples are, more will they demonstrate a skill or skills/attributes that Macfarlanes is looking for.
I definitely wouldn’t defer the LPC - it is bascially coming to an end where the SQE has come in and you could find it a fairly redundant qualification by 2024. But at the same time if you wasn’t to pursue an LLM there is no point in doing the LPC this year either - I would say it’s is one or...
I typically advise focusing on the qualities that Macfarlanes look for (see below) and the focusing on your experiences that really have developed or demonstrated those skills.
It really depends on the role and the firm.
What I would say is that £27k sounds like it could be the average rather than the bottom of the salary range, and therefore by asking for £30k you could be asking for the top end.
However, it’s a candidates market at the moment and so getting to £30k...
I would only include work related activities if those activities are in addition to your contracted role (eg you are involved in any internal networks, charity fundraising, mentoring etc). You could also focus on “achievements” to highlight certain things in your work where you have gone above...
If the information is necessary for the correspondence, then reply with more info and apologise for omitting it.
If it’s not necessary for them to know, I’d probably leave it.
I would say after three weeks has passed.
I don’t think it is any indication. They are just asking for their process/understanding - it’s quite a common thing to ask, and for me it’s never been an indication of outcome when I have asked it.
Any recruiter will consider a 67/68 on the BCL an excellent grade. There is nothing to worry about here.
It isn’t a dip in academic performance - you are studying to a higher level.
You are definitely not in a worse position than before you started the course.
If it helps, I have known a few trainees who fell pregnant during their TC. I also know various trainees (both male and female) who partners were pregnant during the trainees TC. It doesn’t happen a lot, but it has happened - typically it just means the route to qualification takes a little...
They don’t want to reject you outright in case they do need to change their mind and consider you again. This could happen if all their offerees turn down their offer.
So to me, this is a, “it’s highly likely you won’t be considered any further unless we are really unlucky and need to...
You don't need a haircut for a Zoom call - so I wouldn't worry about that even if it was the case.
But yes, you can email grad rec to ask if it will just be an audio call. However, they may not come back to you ahead of your interview if it is tomorrow.
I would expect this to be the case. I'd probably try to be ready just in case it was over video, but if you were worried about it at the start of the interview, I would just explain you thought you thought it would be voice only and whether it is ok for the camera to be off.
I think shadowing anyone can be helpful, but if you are looking for training contracts rather than paralegal roles, I’d try to shadow a qualified lawyer or a trainee.
