Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

Depends on the question (e.g. a competency answer will likely last longer than discussing your biggest weakness), as well as how quickly you speak. Most answers will probably be between 30 and 2 minutes. If it's less, that's OK as long as you check you're developing your answers properly. If...

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

I think that's one of the best ways to prepare. Many candidates really know their stuff on paper, but it can be a struggle to articulate that aloud and in the pressure of an interview. PS: The questions in that guide lean on the harder side, but in the real thing, you should get a combination...

    Ask A Graduate Recruiter Anything!

It's good to hear that last bit. What is your opinion on candidates reneging on training contract offers? Obviously, it's not great form but are there wider consequences aside from burning bridges with a particular firm?

    Interview Clashes

Your gut is right - ask the second firm if they can reschedule your AC. Hard to say the likelihood, but there's no harm in asking first and then reassessing your options after. You don't really want to go for an interview during a vacation scheme, it does happen, but you want to avoid it unless...

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

I wouldn't say it was easy. I knew it was a risk (and everyone else pointed out that risk) and it could have turned out badly. It helped that it was my first scheme and I was fairly new to the process, so I felt if I put more work in, I could go through the cycle again and secure other schemes...

Hearing Back from Law Firms, Assessment Centres & Interview Tips - 2019 - 2020

Yes, I did that for my first offer with a mid-sized law firm. It was post-vacation scheme and, at the time, I didn't have other interviews/schemes. My reasoning was that if I could get one scheme, I could probably get more, and I felt I'd be settling if I didn't at least try for other firms.

    Application opening dates

Yep - anyone can research facts about a firm; I think going out of your way to meet them helps to demonstrate a genuine interest. I'd just check that any events are fairly early on in the application window (I imagine they will be).

    Memery Crystal TC interview

First future trainee: 'Apologies but my memory on this is quite vague, I had my first round interview in my second year of uni. From what I remember, the first round of interviews was quite group based - we were given an extract to read individually and we then contributed ideas about the...
