    Rolling Basis

As I also always say, my first vacation scheme was from a firm where I submitted my application about 30 minutes before the midnight deadline. Obviously, there is an opportunity cost to factor into the equation, but if you have the time then I'd go for it.

    Milbank Application Tips?

The cover letter format should be the same as you would approach a normal cover letter, so: Brief introductory paragraph (one paragraph) Why commercial law? Why Milbank ? Why me? (A summary of how your experiences/extra-curricular activities makes you a good candidate) Bullet points 2-4 don't...

    Irwin Mitchell Work Experience Stress

Do you think graduate recruitment were only trying to say you should write as much as you can? 5,000 characters is ridiculously long for each work experience. I would imagine it's more a maximum limit than a target.

wrong company name in my work experience?!

I don't see that as a big issue. Later down the line, if a firm wants to run a background check, you can clarify that the name is different.

    First year applications

Legal work experience is good if you have it. You can use it to demonstrate your interest in a career in law. You could also mention extra-curricular activities, positions of responsibility, or hobbies and interests, depending on the question. Although, firms will appreciate that some of these...

    Trowers & Hamlins

It's one of the hardest application questions I've seen, so I don't blame you for finding it tough! That sounds like a sensible approach. I took the same approach when answering a similar question here...

    Baker McKenzie Question

Yeah it seems like they would have wanted you to apply for the Spring scheme. Probably worth an email to see whether it's a strict rule.

A commercial/business story sounds good. It can be effective to have a personal element to justify why a topic interests you, but it's not necessary.

Financial Markets 2018: the year in review

Another useful article from Schroders: https://www.schroders.com/en/insights/economics/financial-markets-2018-the-year-in-review/ In summary: Stock markets have suffered this year as interest rates start to rise. Until now, stocks have done very well from the low interest rate environment as...

    US trade war with China

China says it is "ready to work" with the US: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-46714985 In mock interviews, I often ask students whether the US tariffs are justified if they bring China to the table. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, policy changes are made during these negotiations.

I don't personally see a problem with it. There are many ways to approach applications and I think it's helpful for others to receive feedback from a variety of people (if you guys are brave enough to share). I'd say it's especially useful for those who want to shape up their application before...
