    Discouraged

You will have a harder time with Slaughter and May, although I wouldn't completely rule out your chances of securing a vacation scheme. Just make sure you nail your application.

    Vacation Scheme Application Advice

Hi all, I have come across several exceptional vacation scheme applications during my recent reviews. I have asked these students to share their advice on applications in this thread, so you can learn how they developed their application technique. If anyone else wants to share any application...

    commercial awareness application question

Yes -- if the question asks about the impact on law firms and not firm X, then your answer doesn't need to be specific to a firm. Just be sure to make clear connections to law firms.

    Freshfields Diversity Access Scheme

Good advice from @Sandrou. @KLaw125 also gave some helpful advice in this thread: https://www.thecorporatelawacademy.com/forum/threads/travers-smith-mitigation-circumstances-in-cover-letter.541/. If it's too large, you can try uploading the file to Google Drive and sharing the link.

Magic circle v US law firms?

Something I came across which is another good way to differentiate US firms and MC firms (particularly in favour of MC): US firms have struggled to crack high end public M&A work in London (advising FTSE 100 public companies on their acquisitions/sales/exits). All the biggest M&A deals in 2016...

    Debevoise & Plimpton

This is good advice. The second question is not a trick question. If it's easier, imagine it's asking: "Tell us an interesting fact about you", which -- if you've ever attended an assessment centre -- is quite often the opening question. It's the firm's way of getting to know you.

    commercial awareness application question

It's the latter. No need to talk about the impact on the firm. I see students do this very often. They write about something that wasn't in the question. There's absolutely no need -- if a law firm wanted you to write about XYZ they would have included it in the question. It's not too damaging...

    NAFTA's Affect on Law Firms

Sure, for those that aren’t familiar with NAFTA, let me give you a quick summary. NAFTA stands for the North American Free Trade Agreement. It came into force in 1994 and gradually eliminated most of the trade barriers between Mexico, Canada and the US. When Donald Trump was elected, he called...

    Deferrals

I told my firm about my master's acceptance when they were telling me about my TC offer. There was another student in our intake who had his offer already, had started the LPC, and was able to defer it (to be fair, he was a very good candidate). I can't speak for other firms though -- some may...
