In case you have already drafted an answer -- your approach may not be wrong. The question is intentionally broad, so you can have alternative interpretations of the question e.g. what drives legal markets etc.

    Abbreviating firm names

This is good advice. I would first check if the firm or legal news sites commonly use an abbreviation. If yes, make it clear as @Lawgirlxo said-- brackets or quotation markets or both. And if the firm has said they don't like abbreviations, definitely avoid it! I think in Norton Rose's case...

Thanks Selma. In our application review session, we could also offer the following: A mock answer review- you submit a mock answer to a question in advance of the session for feedback. Examples of good and bad answers to all of the most common application questions: why law/why this...

    CMS application

I believe the question is intentionally broad. They want you to work out what you think they mean by the business of law, and then explain its drivers. I'm not convinced there is a "right" answer here, unless you go very off topic. @AJ has said the business of law could mean law firms, which I...

    CMS application

I previously expressed to another student how vague I find this question. Is there any other guidance on the form? What do you both interpret this question to mean?

    Competency questions

That's fair. It's not always easy to come up with a relevant example on the spot. I used to get stuck trying making a link between what I did and how I met those trickier competencies. It felt quite contrived.

Which law firms are open for applications? 2018-19

I very much agree. This is an opportunity to show a genuine interest in any commercial topic -- rather than trying to force an artificial link to law firms.

    Kirkland App

Hmm, I checked back on my application. When I applied, it was two commercial questions, which was a bit easier. I would equate "why do you want to be a transactional lawyer at Kirkland" as mostly a "why Kirkland" question. Your cover letter could include more information on your interest in...

Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner Application Questions

I have merged both of your questions so we can cover it here. 1. How does BCLP align with your ambitions for your Training Contract and beyond? You are correct that this question is similar to a "Why BCLP" question. However, to be clear, they have changed the question for a reason. So you...
