Congrats to those of you who secured the scheme (I won't name names in case you want it to be anonymous but thanks for letting me know!). If you want to chat through the scheme closer to the time drop me a PM and we can set up a private forum.

The impact of tariffs on business and law firms

Agreed, these are all good points. A few extra thoughts - I would also note that it would affect manufacturers and exporters in different ways. If a US manufacturer imports its raw materials from overseas their costs will rise. So that may cause them to raise prices or absorb the cost, which...

The impact of tariffs on business and law firms

No problem, you ask good questions. Long-term purchase agreements will probably be banking. If it's more complex or there are hedging agreements then it's more likely to be structured finance or derivatives. Agreed. You can argue both sides here. If we're just focusing on tariffs I'd agree that...

The impact of interest rates on law firms - part 1

I would focus on the industry. If you come across a client during your research then sure you can mention it, but it's not necessary.

    The what-we're-doing-right-now page

Hey everyone, It's an exciting day for us today because it's our two-week anniversary since we launched the website. (I know two weeks isn't something people normally celebrate but it feels like our first milestone!). We also had an idea. Rather than having sneaky updates that no-one knows...

The impact of tariffs on business and law firms

Private equity - it depends on the type of companies they own and to what extent uncertainty impacts their incentive to invest. But yes, target companies in these industries may be subject to lower valuations if their profits fall because of the tariffs. Project finance - Yes I'd think so...

    Law Firm Interview Experiences

It's worth checking whether there are any bars to reapplication in the same cycle, but if not, I'd say it's worth reapplying.

    Help with TC assessments

Hey, sure drop me an email at [email protected] when you're ready. I'm afraid I can't give assessment-specific advice if it's a task sent by the firm, but I'd be happy to answer questions or provide some general pointers for your speech or slides.

P.S: If it helps in the meantime, here's a snapshot of how I answered the question of what gives Shearman & Sterling a competitive advantage in their VS app. As with the others, it's not perfect but was enough for an interview (together with the rest of the app).

    Law Firm Interview Experiences

Hey Denisa - that's an interesting one. Two questions first: When are the vacation schemes? And do you have any idea why you were rejected? i.e. the WG/video performance/the app form.

    Law Firm Insights Page

I'll get working on it now :). Edit: I must also say that the S&S graduate recruitment website is excellent. I've been through a lot over the past few months and it's refreshing to see one that has good content and is easy to navigate!

    Help with TC assessments

Hey Denisa, I didn’t do White & Case, but I can share what I learned at a few vac schemes with similar tasks: Research and drafting task Assessors will be looking to see how well you can research what’s relevant and how well you can articulate that in your draft. Read the client’s or lawyer’s...

The impact of tariffs on business and law firms

The impact of tariffs and/or a trade war on business and law firms - Part 2 Imagine you're in an industry that relies on steel and aluminium for imports. That could be the car industry or aerospace or construction. You fear your costs are going to rise and so you need to think ahead of time...

    VS conversion rates

Hey Sandrou, I'm sorry to hear about Slaughters but it's good you're getting feedback. I'll answer your questions in order: 1. Which other firms have you applied to and why? You can be honest here but try to explain why you applied to other firms. Suppose you're applying to a corporate-heavy...
