I am always super excited for the calls - it's my favourite part of my role here!
(P.s. sorry if you were the one person I couldn't connect with today and that I had to reschedule on!)
How hard it is depends on how far you are in the process of training. Basically if you have started the process of onboarding to law school (GDL/LPC/SQE course) then you are financially tied to that firm. Although it’s not impossible to still renege at that point, if you do, you typically need...
They need people in the office to supervise you and also make sure you are ok/learning etc.
That is much trickier to do when people are working from home more. So finding supervisors who can supervise you is much trickier than it ever was before.
It is quite common, but even more so at the moment when they have issues with finding appropriate supervisors due to the increase in working from home.

It is good to see which agencies also have a good number of roles too - might be worthwhile registering with them.
LinkedIn in also a great way to find roles, as is inhouselegal on Instagram
Typically September and January are the biggest peaks of paralegal recruitment activity. There tends to be more deal activity in the period between September and December, which means teams tend to be busier. Same goes for January to May time too - then with it quieter over the summer.

Exactly as you have described is appropriate.
Call them and explain you are keen to understand when you might get an update from your interview as you need to make some decisions on another offer you have received.
Be mindful they may tell you to accept it anyway (knowing that you can later...
It depends on the context. Sometimes it doesn’t add any value to what you say - particularly if you are leading with them/what they told you, rather than your analysis of what they told you/why it is relevant to you.
It is just market trends - I don't think it really reflects too much on the difference in graduate salaries.
Finance has always paid much closer to the graduate salary (typically somewhere between 70-90%) while law hasn't. Banks don't have to schmooze people in the same way law firms do though...
I realise I may not have helped with my earlier posts on this conversation earlier.
I'd encourage everyone to normalise every outcome of how many vacation scheme offers someone gets.
We are talking about a process with so many variables, that the one thing that is really tricky to do is to say...
I honestly have very little advice for preparing for group or written exercises. They are purposely designed so that preparing for them isn't needed or will have little impact.
My advice is more based on what you do during the exercise (rather than preparing beforehand).
Written exercise...
I don't think you can prepare for day-to-day work in all honesty, beyond researching the practice area anyway. That is even more so the case if you are already working in a law firm and are more accustomed to the workings of a law firm.
It is really difficult to know what work you will be...
I always stress to people that they need to look at asking questions as the opposite way as most people approach them. Most people ask questions to try and impress in an interview, but my view is that this is your opportunity to ask the things that help you decide whether this is the right firm...
I would still not worry too much about it being a guaranteed work experience programme - you'll have plenty of time to build up experiences outside of the firm you have a mentor at. I wouldn't say one placement would have that big an impact - it doesn't with the 100s of people I have seen with...
