It's likely to mean that someone will just be present (like an exam invigilator). You are unlikely to be able to take documents in with you, but could make notes during the task.
I guess by why us, you mean why the firm?
If so, it’s about aligning your career aspirations to what the firm can offer. There is little point in just factually stating things the firm already knows about itself unless you are explaining why they are important to you and therefore demonstrating...
It's either about providing more depth or a slightly different angle to what you have presented in your application or providing more variety. Stating exactly the same as your application wouldn't be a great idea.
Even if someone knows the benchmark, it means very little. You don't know the make up of the score, which means it is impossible go interpret what it means for you as an individual applicant.
An untimed assessment can still be used as a sole assessment. They could assess accuracy, they could...
References very rarely substantiate the work you have done. Just that you were there. If a company no longer exists then it's quite common for references to not be obtained.

I would email the firm and ask how likely it will be in person and then make a judgement call from there. If they say its looking likely, then I would advise to not apply and focus on other opportunities.
1) not necessarily - your application will just look like you haven't secured a TC, not that you have reneged on one
2) no - data protection means that data won't be stored anywhere
3) yes - you will still be eligible for training contracts. Passing the LPC does make you exempt from SQE1 but...
If you were given any feedback as to why you didn't secure a TC with the firm, I would potentially disclose that feedback if I had tangible evidence of what I was doing to improve in that area.
If it was aomerinf more motivationally based, then id try to highlight why that firm wasn't beat...
Just remember this is one person’s opinion out of nearly 150,000 qualified lawyers in the UK.
And they clearly are a bit over opinionated and naive. Hopefully you just got them on a bad day.
The only people who would know that is grad rec, and they are unlikely to disclose it because 1) it could easily change and 2) the numbers only tend to be calculated at the end of the cycle.
